    2024-25 General Trades and Signings

It’s because Florida’s 2026 1st is involved in the absurdly complex conditions from the Monahan trade, so they have attach conditions to it.

If there was ever any question he's in Putin's pocket, the answer should be painfully clear now.

    Armchair GM Thread 2024-25

I wouldn't be super fussed about moving Danford. As much as he seems like a safe bet to play NHL games, his ceiling doesn't seem particularly high. Don't expect him to be much more than a good 3rd pairing/passable 2nd pairing type. For any of the others, it would need to be a significant piece...

Well, the D in DeAngelo definitely does not stand for defence (it stands for deplorable).

And for what St Louis is rumoured to be asking for, the Leafs would need to be getting a huge bargain, especially with the extra years on the deal.

Absolutely nuts considering the cap hit vs his performance. Would need double retention to make it at all palatable, and even then…

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

After reading the article on him in The Athletic, I'm pretty sure Hakanpaa is done for the year. No one wants to admit it, but he's still not healthy enough to play or even practice consistently. Two games is likely all the Leafs will get out of him.

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I don't know if I'd consider Tavares' and Minten's Leafs future to be so directly linked. Minten likely tops out as a 3rd line C. Tavares is more likely to end up as a 2nd line W on his next contract.

Losing someone as important as Tanev so early in the night throws a lot of things off.

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Sure. There's definitely some covert discussions that take place. Teams and agents find ways to determine what a player is looking for in terms of length and dollar value, what teams they might be interested in signing with, etc. It's more that direct negotiations can't take place legally (and...

He's only eligible for the 8th year if he signs before the UFA market opens - so June 30th or earlier.

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Yeah, maybe. I don't think it would quite the same level of disaster, but it definitely won't be anywhere near good value at that rate and term. For what it's worth, the projections I've seen for Bennett put him more along the lines of $6.5M per, which feels about right if he can still produce...

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Unless the number comes in quite significantly lower, I'm quite happy to let another team overpay him for his "intangibles" and middle 6 production.

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Seriously. If (when?) a team signs Bennett for anywhere near that much, it will instantly be a bad contract, even with the increasing cap. As much as the Leafs could use a lot of what he bring to the table, his value is much closer to $5-6M than $9M.

2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

There's that - and, even at his peak, he's a similar caliber offensive weapon (better goal scorer, but not as good a playmaker) while being a less well-rounded player. Rantanen doesn't kill penalties and isn't particularly strong defensively. They're both 90+ point wingers, but only one provides...
