Another big C shakeup. Colorado has MacKinnon-Nelson-Coyle now at C, pretty massive upgrade from the start of the season.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

That's not an unheard of term for a PK that plays more aggressively. Furthermore last season Philly led the league in shorthanded goals. "Power kill" was a common term their fan base used.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

A part of me wonders what McMann-Laughton-Jarnkrok could do in a more heavy match-ups role. Have Domi/Robertson playing on L2 not needing to worry about defence. A real 3C finally gives Berube a number of options to play around with.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Think these thoughts were shared by the majority of the Flyers fan base.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Heck, Laughton's a defensive AND offensive upgrade on Domi at this point.

Yeah it really depends on how Carolina moves forwards with those 1st rounders.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

The team NEEDED Kampf at 4C while our 3C slot was so weak. Having Laughton makes him way more expendable especially with like 4 other players who could perform typical 4C duties.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

With the Laughton move, Reaves sent to the Marlies, and Pacioretty joining Hakanpaa on LTIR there's about $1.4mil in cap space with a 23-man roster. If say Dewar went the other way the Leafs could afford a $2.5mil defenceman.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

I was expecting Minten for Laughton straight up. We ended up keeping our top-4 trade assets (Cowan, Minten, Danford, 2026 1st) and managed to get Laughton for 50% retention. That's probably worth adding Grebenkin.

    Steeves has zero value.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Ok this is also a bonus for us.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Well it's Grebenkin and a 1st over them. I wonder what the plan for Minten going forward is though. His likely line-up spot (3C) is now blocked this season and next. Possibly beyond that too if Laughton re-signs here after next season which feels somewhat likely considering he's from here.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Probably not when 2nd's are going for bottom pair D or 4th liners like Schenn and Tanev.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

I dunno if Grebenkin is definitely gonna be a player, but I really wanted to find that out here. I guess it came down to Minten or a 1st+Grebenkin. We'll see if that decision pans out. 50% retention plus getting a couple picks even if they're late isn't nothing too.

    They should, but they won't.

    Leafs acquire Scott Laughton

Probably a good fit, I'm terrified of the price though considering everything else that's happened. We probably should have just dealt a 1st for him 2 years ago I guess.

We got him for a 3rd two deadlines ago. Somehow his trade value increased as he got older, worse, and more expensive.
