Blockbuster Leaf Trade on the Horizon

Nightfawl said:
I put a lot more stock into rumors by #IBN than I do EK and I'm very intrigued by his latest.

Did I ever tell you the story about Incarcerated Bob and his twitter rumors this past summer?  I decided to follow him on Twitter and pay close attention to all his rumors since he was getting a lot of "buzz" from people who follow rumors who told me he was very often "on the mark" with this rumors.  So I followed him in and around July 1.

There was that whole situation with Max Talbot and his negotiating rights before July 1, at one point there was a report saying that the Leafs traded a pick to acquire his rights and would announce the signing soon.  IB went so far as to tweet it had already happened, the deal would be announced and everyone would just have to wait and see.

When Talbot then signed with Philly on July 1, IB went back and *CHANGED* his Twitter post (cause on twitter you can do that) to say "Leafs are *not* interested in acquiring Talbot, any rumor to the contrary is false".  He also lauded his own post and said "See guys, I'm 3/3 with this Talbot announcement today" -- I'm paraphrasing here, I don't recall his exact words.

I challenged him on it and said "Why did you change your tweet?  You said the Leafs had definitely signed him and would announce on July 1".  He ignored me.  When I further challenged him and started to alert his followers on Twitter that he goes back and changes his Twitter posts to match what actually happens and then takes credit for being correct, he blocked me from following him.

So there's your semi reliable source.  Put some stock in that.

when someone writes "i mean superstar type names" it does sound quite legit

Moved this to General Rumours and Speculation because IBM is about as credible as I am (I called Carter to Columbus too!!!!).

The only reason this guys seems more reliable than Eklund is that he hasn't become popular enough to be made fun of as much as Eklund. I'm pretty sure when Dallas Dave outed himself as a fraud, he outed this guy with him.

Sounds Legit!

It can't be because I already traded Luke Schenn for Chris Stewart straight up.

I then bounced Komisarek to Edmonton for Ben Eager...

followed by MacArthur and Kadri for Ryan Clowe.

I guess I can move Grabovski, Lombardi and a 1st for Eric Staal.

This year and next the Leafs will now look like:

Just trying to summarize as many BLOG rumours in one post.  Sorry I couldn`t get the Getzlaf one in.

It's Connolly (4.75M) + 2nd + Blacker + Orr (1.00M) to Anaheim for Getzlaf (contract extension at 7.0M)  (~2.0M in cap space left for 13th forward).

Just so everyone knows I am not looking to dumb down the quality of posts with a few hair brained submissions.  I am just having some fun with a team I have been a fan of for a few years now.  As VP of a company I don`t have much time to see the Leafs, so I read many opinions here about them as well as check out highlights and views elsewhere on the net to build my perspective.

For those of you that really work hard at writing informative and researched posts...please don`t get frustrated with those of us here that don`t have the ability to do that.  [/sincere]

I'm not saying IBN is legit.. not in the least.  But unless I missed a really obvious twitter feature, you cannot modify a tweet.  You can delete them but not change them.

IBN is quite a spaz. I started following him later in the summer as well and found he just makes a lot of noise, throws out random things and tracks rumors posted by more legit sources.

But he can't go back in time and change tweets... almost for certain.

I guess you're right about Twitter I can't find a way to edit old tweets, however my story is still valid about him going back and "changing history" so to speak.  He *did* say for certain that Talbot signing with the Leafs would be announced and the Leafs had given up a draft pick for the rights to do so, and then later must have deleted that tweet.  I wish I had taken a screenshot on my iPhone to prove he tweeted it, but at the time I didn't bother.  I just wanted to catch him on BS.

Yes, I had too much time on my hands in the summer LOL

Is Burke trying to bring Eric Staal and Cam Ward to Toronto? Has anyone heard anything more about this ridiculous rumor?

Where are all these players who are helping the Leafs put together this very respectable run going to go when the injuries heal? With 5 or so regulars coming back it makes little sense to send Colborne, Crabb, Franson and Frattin to the minors or press box. Is a trade on the horizon?

I have to disagree with that statement, especially for Colborne and Frattin. There's absolutely nothing wrong with sending rookies down to the AHL to get good playing time and continue their development when there are healthy and experienced players on the roster who are contributing. That's exactly what the Red Wings have been doing for years, and that's the type of development system the Leafs should be looking to emulate. Franson and Crabb are a little less cut-and-dry for me, as I don't think they'd clear waivers with the way they've been playing recently (in fact, considering the trade interest in him, I can say with a significant degree of certainty that Franson won't), but, I see no problem in keeping them as spares and slotting them in on a frequent basis to get guys some rest - especially for players like Gardiner, who has never played an 82 game season, and players like Lombardi, Armstrong and Brown, who will likely still need maintenance days when they're healthy.
