The Jays must select 25 players for their ALDS roster

LOCKS  (22)
-------

Price
Stroman
Dickey
Estrada

Osuna
Lowe
Cecil
Sanchez
Hawkins
Hendriks

Martin
Navarro
Smoak
Colabello
Encarnacion
Goins
Pennington
Tulowitzki
Donaldson
Revere
Pillar
Bautista

Possibilities
-------------

Buehrle
Hutchison
Schultz
Tepera
Loup

Thole
Hague
Kawasaki
Diaz
Carrera
Pompey

My last 3 would be

Buehrle
Carrera
Hague

Who do you think they will select?

I'd probably go with Buerhle/Hutchison, Schultz/Loup and Pompey. Rather have the extra arm in the pen than the extra guy on the bench.

My guess is Buerhle, Carrera and Pompey.

edit: And one of Carrera/Pompey is a lock. They won't not have a back-up outfielder.

AA has said they'll have 11 pitchers and 14 position players.

Buerhle has said he won't be on the roster

So my guesses are Loup, Carrera and Pompey.

If a starter gets injured, are they allowed to replace him?

No,  the same 25 roster is in effect for the whole ALDS

They can change it up for the ALCS if they get there

and again for the World Series if they get there.

And Gibbons recently spoke of what he felt was the importance of someone with speed like Pompey in reference to Kansas City last year.  Can't remember the player but they had a pinch runner who would come in often and I guess had an impact.

I think you're thinking of Terrance Gore. Or Jerrod Dyson.

I agree with Pompey, Buerhle and Carerra.

Hague makes no sense. Hutchinson can't be trusted in any situation and Loup has been a bit of a disaster this year. The only other guy I'd consider would be Barney, though I'm not sure if you really need two INF on the bench...

Barney isn't eligible. He joined the team too late in the year.

Yep, those are the two.  And actually Gibbons didn't mention KC last year it was actually the author of the Toronto Star article talking about how Pompey could fill a role like that.

Either way I agree with Carrera and Pompey.

Oh yea, I forgot about that, thanks.

I take it it's too late to add Jo Jo Reyes as well?

I really don't understand why they aren't adding Buehrle to the bullpen

you would think two lefties in the bullpen would be a good thing and Buehrle is a MUCH better pitcher than Loup even if he has been struggling down the stretch

Woo Jays finally make the playoffs

Game 1 Thursday: either 3:37 pm (if Astros win) or 4:07 p.m. (if Yankees win)
Game 2 Friday: 12:35 PM

Sigh.

EDIT: Forgot to put the days in.

Wow, I was really looking forward to watching the games...

Is there any particular reason they're so early on a weekday?

MLB won't schedule games simultaneously so one series has to get the crappy start times (aka whichever isn't going to make them the most $$).

American broadcasters will want to air the most possible games so they won't play two at the same time and they'll decide which team plays in which slot based on their appeal to the national TV audience.
