$1.35mil AAV

Now that that's out of the way Keefe will hopefully have gotten the ok to put him on the top line.

This is a good deal. I do think he could potentially develop something like a Hyman maybe.

I was going to say McMann is 27 already and he might already be what he is, but at the same time - Hyman is having the best season of his career at 31.  So maybe McMann might still have another gear in him - he just needs the opportunity!

Hyman definitely feels like a stretch but I'd certainly be curious to see what he could do in a top-6 LW role.

It's funny to think what could have happened to his time as a Leaf if Tavares and Marner weren't sick that one game where he got into a line-up and scored the hat trick.

Good for him. I think it is a great value and they were smart to do it before they used him more.

I thought they were a little slow catching on but I'm glad they finally did.
If you watched him in the AHL, you couldn't miss it.
He has more to offer.

He's used to a top 6 role in the AHL and PP time.
He had to adapt some to more of a checking role to earn his ice time.
I was down on his shot blocking but it improved. He's probably above average now.

He did pretty well for a guy getting 10.x mins/game.

I saw he is on the 2nd PP unit today and that is getting closer to his wheelhouse. He can help there in front of the net or from the side boards.
He's done many other things pretty well. He's hitting - yet a number of games, they've missed them on his stats. He's coming back - playing 200 feet. He's winning the odd faceoff (he used to play center). He's winning puck battles (like to see him do better there with his size). He doesn't give away the puck much. He's recovered decent speed from his knee injury.

A concern I'm left with he has partially addressed. I'm still not convinced he is reading and reacting as he should. He said he feels he's reading the play better. At times, he takes some odd lines like he's not sure or hoping they'll get the puck to him. He has improved on it but something seems a little off there. There's room for improvement there for sure.

It doesn't happen as often as we might hope. It's nice to see a guy on the fringes make it.

I guess no one calls him Stone Hands Hyman any more.

But this seems like a good value deal.  They need all of those they can wring out of the underlings.

When I say Hyman I?m thinking kind of 2017/18/19 point every other game, ~18-20 goals Hyman kind of deal while hopefully playing a fairly heavy, responsble game.

Love that. McMann is really good.

Good that we are not simply giving up on him same way Dubas did with Mason Marchment.

I don't remember him being called stone hands Hyman..I thought Bert got that title....lol

It's true, at one point Hyman was called stone hands. It seems he always entered the playoffs injured, that is why I wanted him to go and his 5M a year is not worth it.

McMann Age 27 Estimated Career Earnings: $302,432
(coming into this season I think)

Matthews makes close to that in 2 NHL games this season and more than that in 2 games next season
