Caputi

I was really surprised to see his name on waivers this morning and I'll be even more surprised if he isn't claimed .  I've been impressed with his play and it seems silly to give up on young kid like this.    It baffles me that the Leafs would leave a roster spot open for Rosehill (when they already have Orr), but let a kid with Caputi's potential go on waivers.

I bet he doesn't get claimed.

I think in order for him to go down, he has to clear waivers. There isn't room for him on this team. Doesn't mean he's done, just no spot at the moment. Coming off his injury filled year last year, he needs time to get it back so a stint in the minors will help.

I don't get the big deal with Luca Caputi to be honest. If he gets claimed... oh well

I'm kind of in this camp. He hasn't really shown anything in his time with the Leafs or Marlies to make me think he's even all that high on the club's depth chart for prospects.

He hasn't really had the opportunity to show much with the injury last season, but in the limited appearances he's had, I think he has played fairly well.  While he may not have shown much yet, I also don't think he's given us any reason to doubt his potential.  I just don't see the point in letting go of a young prospect via waivers when he probably could've fit into the lineup. i'd honestly rather see him on the third line than kadri at this point.

I'd have to agree as well.  When he was initially acquired for Poni, the report was that he was a grinder with a nose for the net and a knack for scoring goals.  I've seen the grinder part to some extent, but he's not even shown that he's all that great at that, and the rest has been extremely sporadic at best.

I doubt he gets claimed at this point with all the traffic in and out of every NHL camp, though he may get claimed if the Leafs try to bring him back up some time during the season.  I could also see him being a throw-in in a deal.  Maybe he'll blossom with a healthy year in the minors, but I'm skeptical at this point.

The point is that he's probably not going to fit into the line-up over either Kadri(who himself seems a good bet to be sent down if he doesn't turn it around) or Frattin. Frattin's shown more than Caputi so far and it makes no sense for Caputi to sit in the press box.

I don't think he'll necessarily grow into anything special, but, I don't like the Leafs losing young players with potential without getting any return for them. That being said, I don't think he'll be claimed, so, it's mostly a non-issue.

When we acquired Caputi, he was only 2 years removed from being a 1.7ppg Junior player.  He was a decent scorer in the AHL with the Pens (92 points in 110 games), but that scoring never emerged with Toronto.  Granted, he missed most of last season, but in what he played,, he scored 5 points in 20 pro games.  I doubt that he gets claimed going down.
