As everyone knows, Mr. Franson is still an unsigned free agent

Has anyone heard any rumblings about who he might sign with?

What teams have cap space to pay him?

How much do you think he will get now that he has lasted this long without a deal?

He was on the radio yesterday actually and was pretty open about his contract situation and what he's looking for, MLHS has a transcript:

http://mapleleafshotstove.com/2015/07/21/cody-franson-on-possible-return-to-toronto-im-still-hopeful-thats-a-possibility/

-Said he's open to any kind of term, but that he's pretty sick of 1-year deals (he's coming off 4-straight 1-year deals)
-Wants to go to a team where he can play a large role, said that Nashville wasn't a fit because there were already so many guys in front of him and he was playing in a depth spot
-Is talking to 5 or 6 teams but there's still a lot of cap stuff that has to be sorted out first
-Hasn't shut the door on Toronto but there hasn't been many discussions going on there
-Mentioned Boston as one of the teams that he's actively in talks with

I don't know how Franson is in the same position he's been in the last 3 years.  He'll most likely end up signing a 1 year deal at mid-range money again.  How does his agent still have his job?

Maybe it's his own fault.

He didn't do himself any favours with how he played after the trade.  He was a huge disappointment in Nashville.

Which, honestly, I think is probably just a reflection of the fact that getting all of the PP time he got here probably pumped up his perceived value quite a bit.

Despite the solid offensive numbers, I mean, I never thought he was particularly good.

I really thought someone would be suckered into a $5 million plus contract for Franson this summer, I just really hoped it wouldn't be the Leafs.

I can't remember...did the Leafs offer him a deal throughout the year, albeit at a discout (something like 3 years, $3 million per), and he turned it down, or was there never any dialogue for an extension?

I think in a normal UFA season, he would have, but with the uncertainty over the cap and all, with the way things went in free agency this summer, I'm not surprised.

I don't recall any reporting on any offers. I'm sure they must have had some preliminary talks just to see where each stood, but probably not anything of significance.

Back in January Friedman reported that Franson turned down a multi-year deal (3 or 4 years I think) at $4.6mil.

Phew.

I mean, maybe. But if he'd accepted that and stayed here it's reasonable to assume he would have maintained his production better than he did in Nashville. So instead of dealing him at the deadline the Leafs could have dealt him this summer signed to a very reasonable 4 year deal and with the profile that had a lot of people calling him the most desirable UFA.

Maybe.

Or he goes in the tank like the other 90% of the roster, and he's not really movable.

I like the 1st pick we got for him without the commitment/risk.

Possibly. But unlike the other guys on the team he had a pretty clear incentive to keep going at it and I think that even if he did struggle it probably doesn't stick as badly to him as, say, getting traded to a good situation and being useless there.
