Gagner/Hemsky?

Just throwing out a couple names on the Oilers that I like and think are realistic trade targets.

Not sure they fit the style/mold/needs of the team but I'm interested to see what people think...

The Oilers need D-men, size, and defensively responsible forwards. I think we are a good potential trading partner. If we could move any of Grabbo/Mac/Gunnar/AHL guys playing over their heads/Liles/certain prospects I'd be up for it.

Gagner would be a better #1 than Bozak, would be dynamite on the PP and could be the #2 when we get a real #1. Hemsky I'm less interested in but has boatloads of speed/talent but is injury prone.

Lines of could be interesting:

Lupul - Gagner - Kessel
JVR - Bozak - Hemsky
Frattin - Kadri - Kulemin
Orr - Mclement - Komarov

We lose a little defensive mindedness in the trade, but add the potential to score a ton on the PP (not unlike Tampa).

And now you can all cut me to pieces....

The most intriguing line there is made up of players we already have...

I like Gagner too, but I would expect the Oilers to demand a LOT for him.

I don't think that either guy is a bad target for a trade but I think if there's something that we've seen recently with the JvR trade it's that if you're going to try and land a good young player the likelihood is that the other team is going to want a good young player in return. Building a trade like this around the Leafs only getting rid of guys who they're a little disappointed with/would have no problem letting go doesn't really seem like much of a deal for the Oilers.

Like Hemky's skills, don't like his durability.  As he approaches 30 I don't expect it to get better.  I run hot and cold on Gagner.  Without delving into advanced stats, my perception from watching them both play is that he's not a marked upgrade on Grabovski. 

If there's a thought he could be converted to a decent center, push for Taylor Hall.  Start with Gardiner and build a trade package.
