How about an offer sheet to Ryan OReilly

In light of Shea Weber and given Burke does not like long term contracts to make a point on a impact player in a position they need why not offer OReilly a simmilar big deal! That would lead the league to change it to stop a growing trend. It might be worth 4 first round picks.  What do you think?

Almost $8M per for a guy that has yet to score 20 goals or put up 60 points in a season? No way. Offering sheeting O'Reilly isn't a bad idea, in theory, but at the price range where the salary wouldn't be insanely out of line with his production, Colorado matches easily, so, what's the point?

O'Reilly's a nice player and he'd probably look pretty good between Kessel and Lupul but the offer sheet idea is just bad. He's not worth the compensation

Now a trade on the other hand could be quite interesting. They'd want Gardiner for sure. Everybody wants Gardiner. But maybe Kulemin/Kadri, Franson and a pick could get it done? I don't even know what Colorado would be looking for but if Burke could get him for a good price I'd be all over it.

Another thing would be to approach Colorado and say what deal would you want for OReilly if we prepare an offer sheet. They may say we will match but here is what we will take for Stasny. My intention was to discuss and bring Burkes dislike with long term contract to a head using finacial clout leafs and big market teams like the flyers have. Nashville cannot match the 26 million dollars up front that Flyers offered.  Very few can. The new CBA may close that but a few such deals in this off season would expose that problem. That may do more to bring stability to league rather than rolling back the cap.

I think that Nashville could match the offer. As someone said on the radio today if they approach the networks for an advance by saying the games and team will draw more with Weber in the lineup should get it done. The question is do they want to be tied down to that contract? If they match they can't trade him for a year and by then have put out a huge amount of cash. Also I read his agent has said Weber prefers they don't match the offer. So basically they would only get 4 low first round picks. Touch choice either way.

if your giving up 4 first round picks you should have done the offer sheet for crosby or stamkos.

Pittsburgh and Tampa would have matched an offer sheet with a blank cheque attached to it.

How about Benn from the stars is he one that you might risk a huge offer sheet for? Is there anyone this summer or next that would be worth the risk to sign an offer sheet for?
