Jaroslav Halak - Would a trade with St Louis work

As the topic indicates, is this a viable option? What's Halak's contact status, doesn't he have another year or two on his contract? Would he be an upgrade and would the cost of getting him be worth it? Discuss. :)

Edit to add: I only mention this because I was listening to the Fan590 and caught the tail end of an interview and Halak's name was mentioned by the dude being interviewed. He basically said wouldn't it be great if the Leafs could work out a deal for Halak then rub it in Gillis' face that his options for trading Luongo are now between slim and none.

Halak has two years left at 3.75.

I think St. Louis would want to keep him. Otherwise they're basically giving the goaltending entirely over to Elliott which seems like a needless gamble unless what they got from trading Halak made them significantly stronger. Because of that, the price is probably too high.

Yeah, 2 years @ 3.75 per is not bad. For some reason I thought he was making more $$$ which might have made it an easier trade to pry him out of there.

I'm sure they'd want more then what we could afford. Thanks.

It might have been remotely possible last year, but after Elliott failed to impress in the playoffs, I'd say Halak is the man in St. Louis going forward.

St. Louis might do it if Elliot comes out of the gate strong. They probably chalk up his 'meh' showing in the playoffs to rookie nerves.

He'd be great, but there's almost no way St. Louis trades him. They seem very content to run with two goalies. Even if Elliott does come back from his poor showing in the playoffs and they decide to trade a goalie I very much doubt it'll be Halak.

I'm a huge fan of the team the Blues have assembled, they've been patiently putting together a powerhouse for a while and the only real piece they're missing is an offensive catalyst which may one day be filled by Tarasenko.

But as for Halak, I can't really think of any valid reasons why they'd trade him. He's young, a good goalie, a proven playoff performer, and they gave up quite a bit to get him in the first place.

I don't see any way the Blues go with Elliott over Halak. He has the more proven track record and, even with Elliott's great run last season, Halak got the majority of starts - especially during the back half of the season.

Plus the Blues traded Bishop to the Sens last year.  Not sure what they've got on the farm but it looks like they've already made their moves in goal.
