Just a Thought

If the opportunity presented itself for a Kessel for Ovechkin trade straight up, what are your thoughts and opinions? Kessel has a center to play with in Washington and Ovie gets to rejuvenate himself in Toronto.

I'd take it and run. Ovi is worth substantially more. You could immediately flip him for more than Kessel is worth.

But even if we intend to keep him. I'd still do it because Ovi has the ability to be the best left winger in the game.

I'd probably take it, then complain bitterly when the commissioner of my fantasy league over-ruled it.

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,230,128; BONUSES: $0
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $69,872

If Bozak (or any center to play the 2nd line) would settle for $2.5 MIL and Kadri agreed to $1.5 MIL, then Nonis might be able to get Kostka to sign for only $1 MIL leaving the whopping $69,872 incase of injury replacements for the whole season.

The following year the Leafs would promptly lose Frattin, Kulemin and Gardiner as there would not be enough cap space to re-sign them.  The buyout relief would allow the Leafs to re-sign the goalies.

I put Ovie in the same category as Luongo.  Even if he was at the top of his game, I wouldn't want that contract.  That being said, he's not even close to being at the top of his game and Kessel is playing at a point a game pace, so to me it's a no brainer. I would NOT make that trade.  If anything, I'd rather throw similar money at Corey Perry in the offseason and not lose an asset (assuming it could fit under the cap).
