Kadri?

I might have missed it in another thread but Kadri is training with Gary Roberts.

I don't buy into the whole "train with Roberts = become an incredible player" theory, but it's nice to see that he's taking things seriously.

But look what it did for Crosby - he went from best player in the NHL to best player in the NHL!

Edit... I think I made a mistake - it was Stamkos wasn't it? Wasn't Roberts tweeting stuff about Stamkos going to his gym?

no matter who trains him a stronger Kadri is a good thing for the Leafs. He could put Lombardi or Connolly out of their spot.

I agree, it can only be good for him to get stronger, it's been his Achilles heel for a while.

He had two big issues with his game preventing him from making the big club.  Strength/conditioning was one, defensive awareness was the other.  This effectively resolves the first part.

Potentially. I mean, I'm pretty sure he didn't play video games all summer long the past two years.

It is a move in the right direction. Roberts has helped some players improve by getting stronger. No miracle fix but you would think Kadri is motivated this summer.

Apparently Eakins criticized Kadri's conditioning during the season. Speed and conditioning are two things which Underhill/Roberts should help with immensely...or at least I would assume as much based on reputation.

"He?s 21, but he?s in an 18-year-old?s body and he needs to get stronger and faster." - Eakins.  A quote from Brophy's article, so very very recent.

I think that statement is pretty telling as far as how far he needs to come to be physically up to where he should be, and how big of a deal it is for him to be training under Roberts.

Yeah. I'm not down with the whole "Roberts as miracle worker" thing either, but, the guy definitely has some knowledge when it comes to strength/conditioning training as it relates to hockey. A step in the right direction, for sure.

Considering the work Roberts has put in with guys like Stamkos, Skinner and Neal, who all showed tremendous improvement, it`s hard not to like this news.

Whatever he was doing it clearly wasn't enough.

And/or he just doesn't have the genetics/steroids.

There are ways to put on muscle even if you're a hard gainer.

Plus Roberts' program is as far more about developing core strength and training muscles for explosiveness and not just about bulking up like a beefcake.

Hopefully Carlyle and his system can address the second part.
