Leafs Defence- Depth Chart

Burke said today that a championship team always starts at the blueline. That may explain his inclination to procure such an impressive collection of them.

I wanted to start this thread before the draft, but after seeing the top 2 selections for the Leafs this week-end, I had to post it now...

The ?D? really is deep now, even without Schenn. One of the deepest in memory.

It would be fantastic to see Justin Schultz slide into that spot Schenn has just vacated... (one can hope)

Leafs Defensive Depth chart for 2012-13

Dion Phaneuf
Carl Gunnarsson
Jake Gardiner
Luke Schenn
John-Michael Liles
Cody Franson
Mike Komisarek

Morgan Rielly
Matthew Finn
Stuart Percy
Jesse Blacker
Korbinian Holzer
Matt Lashoff
Simon Gysbers
Mark Fraser
Tom Nilsson
Petter Granberg
Juraj Mikus
Eric Knodel
Viktor Loov

agree/disagree?

Would love to dump Komisarek somehow and bring up Holzer.  I'm fairly certain he can provide at least what Schenn was providing in terms of D, if perhaps not in terms of physicality.

If you're going to include Knodel and Nilsson, who are unsigned prospects, you should probably include Granberg, who is signed, even if he's playing in Sweden.

I'd have to think both Blacker and Percy are still well above Rielly and Finn at this point in terms of "ready"or "close to ready." I'd like to see Dion and Gunner, Gardiner and Schultz, Liles and Holtzer as our pairings with Komi as the 7th d-man (unless we can pawn him off on someone else.)

Got it. :)

I've heard lots of good stuff about Holzer but haven't really watched him play. Is he NHL ready and can he make the jump this season?
