Leafs Line up this year

I am speculating on what the line up will probably be this year.  I am hoping that Komisarek can be the elite tough shutdown dman that Burke was probably expecting and can take top pairing duties with Phaneuf.

On fight nights swap out Boyce or Kadri for Orr or Rosehill.

I think I might be in the minority, but i actually think Kadri starts the year in the A.

I was kind wondering that as well but I am hoping he can get some minutes in the NHL this year to see what he can do.

You're missing Gunnarsson - there's no way he starts the year in the A, unlike Rosehill, who probably will.

I'd have Gunnarsson ahead of Lashoff (who may have to clear waivers to the AHL if all are healthy to start the season and they don't want to carry 8 dmen)

I doubt Rosehill will stay up if Orr is good to go.

Kadri, Boyce & Dupuis may have an edge for a spot but will fight it out with Caputi, Frattin, Colborne (who I doubt will make the NHL for more than a cup of coffee this season), Zigomanis, Hamilton and maybe Crabb. I also haven't given up on them trying to get a 4th line center.

There's pretty much no way Komisarek is going to be playing with Phaneuf. That's Aulie's spot to lose. At this point the best case scenario is that he adds a physical presence and plays mistake-free hockey on the bottom pairing while getting PK time. But I wouldn't be surprised if he spends some time in the press box this season, particularly with the addition of Franson.

I wouldn't really have too much of a problem if that happened, but only if one of Frattin/Caputi/Colborne beat him out for a spot. I like Boyce and all, but I don't want him in the top-9.

Frattin and Caputi were the 2 I was thinking of.  Kadri might jump up part-way through the season when an inevitable injury hits, but I'm just guessing he's A-bound to start.

Looking at that group on the blue line I have to think some sort of trade is coming. I'd be stunned if they went into the year with one of Franson/Komisarek/Gunnarsson as their #7 defenseman.

Just some snippets from a recent Dobber bit;

Phil Kessel is a pure sniper and if he can skate with a healthy Tim Connolly for the majority of the year, the Leafs will be in great shape. The biggest question mark in Toronto though, is Connolly and any extended time out of the lineup will leave the door wide open for a couple challengers.

The Leafs? third line will almost certainly feature Matt Lombardi and Colby Armstrong, both of which who will see time in the top-six at various points of the year, though unlikely to find a permanent home in the upper echelon.
Tyler Bozak has the inside track on a third-line role and saw many extended looks on Phil Kessel?s line last year, making him the top candidate to replace an injured Connolly.

Nazem Kadri and his two-way contract are less likely to make the team out of camp.

Philippe Dupuis is a highly underrated fourth line center with speed and tenacity.

(I bolded the Lombardi bit because this assumes of course, he's healthy.) I know Lombardi is also effective in the wing.

I wouldn't mind seeing;

Lupul / Connolly / Kessel
MacArthur / Grabovski / Kulemin
Lombardi / Bozak / Armstrong
Brown / Dupuis / Orr

Kadri could fill in for virtually any injured top 9 winger I think and Colborne could do the same for any top 3 center too perhaps. Fire Caputi in there for for replacemrnt of a botton 6 winger if need be as well as Boyce should Dupuis not work out.

Yeah, not sure how Franson starts in the A after a good full season last year. Komi should be the odd man out but he's not very tradeable, expensive press box but better that than hurting the team if he hasn't figured things out.

I think Kadri will make the team this year, he showed quite a bit of improvement his last go around and if he continues the Leafs sure could use his offence. If Frattin and Caputi make it challenging for him that's a good thing.

Can't see Lombardi back before Christmas.

I'm in the Gunnarson camp.  I think we've seen enough of Komisarek here in Toronto, Gunnar should be in the top 6.

Gunnar should be there, no doubt.

I can't imagine that Gunnarsson is the guy on the bubble. It seems more likely to me that Franson/Komisarek are at the bottom of the depth chart with Aulie in the mix if he struggles at all.

The D lines are pretty hard to put together. But I think it will likely be the following:

Phaneuf - Aulie
Schenn - Liles
Franson - Gunnar

The problem here is that I think we're starting to become somewhat deficient defensively. Neither Franson nor Gunnar are known for their defensive game. Liles is below average as well. The only players I would say are above average defensively are Phaneuf and Aulie, and even that is a stretch.

I can see the caveat with Aulie but I have a feeling he'll be ok, if not then maybe the Leafs defensive depth could pay off. The 'jinx' happened a bit with Luke but he had injury troubles that I think had some influence.

Franson should be past that but I can see him at the bottom, just above Komi.

Aulie      Phaneuf
Liles      Schenn
Gunnar  Franson
            Komi

...seems right to me now. I can also see rotating Franson and Komi a bit depending on need and whether Komi's head is screwed on straight enough for a dependable physical assignment.

I agree with you on Franson but not Gunnar, not that he's lights out defensively but I don't worry about him at all that way.

Um, Schenn?
