Leafs looking into Mike Green?

First I've heard of it. Green is probably better that Liles but with Liles already in the fold, I'm not sure if there would be a fit. Factor Franson in the mix and Green (while really good offensively) is somewhat redundant - no? I call BS for now.

Looking at the "author's" history on that particular fan-contribution based "news" site, and, well, it's full of Eklund level crap, so . . .

I gotta go with that too...

THis is my favourite segment of one of his articles so far, from two weeks ago:

Burke still has some work ahead of him as the Maple Leafs still have several overpaid veterans who are hurting the team with salary cap restrictions.

Toronto will need to make some moves either by trade or releasing players to keep the team under the cap and names like Joffrey Lupol, Matt Lombardi, James Reimer, and Tim Connolly all could be on the trading block over the next month.

Yup, in order to get under the cap (which the Leafs are already under with only Schenn needing to be signed and there being more than enough room to fit him in), Reimer (the team's de facto starting goalie), Connolly (the team's newly signed 1st line centre), Lupul (one of the team's few "proven" top 6 wingers) and Lombardi (who may never play again and will, in essence, not count against the cap if the Leafs are pressing against the ceiling) are all on the trading block. That's deep and probing insider information. ;D

Nah...he won't fit my defencemen line up of:
Aulie / Weber

Gardiner / Schenn

Vandermeer / Franson

I mean, who needs a RH dman that scores over 30 goals in only 68 games??

So who are we trading for him then? Schenn +? Kulemin +? My point is that trading for a player of his ilk is probably going to create a bigger whole in our line-up elsewhere.

Jeez, this guy makes Eklund look credible!

:D :D Imagine how shocked we'd be with a Reimer trade?

Probably? And if Green was available I don't think Franson would make Burke uninterested. If anything, Franson would just be going the other way in the trade. The rumour is definitely BS though, so whatever.

As for the 'point holes in this guys logic' game, I'll take it from a Capitals perspective. Washington is over the cap (by only about $900k), but they have Tom Poti likely starting the season on LTIR so that should provide quite a bit of assistance. And even if that isn't enough, somebody like Erskine would likely just be waived before Washington traded away one of their core players. As for not having enough cap space to sign him to a deal next season, Washington will gain just under $4mil in cap space next summer when Dennis Wideman's contract expires. Semin's $6.7mil contract also expires then and he'll also be an UFA. It's possible they bring him back, but I'd imagine it'd be on a more long-term deal with a smaller cap hit. Green and Carlson are really their only key free agents next summer so there should be enough room to get them both signed.

Sorry Floyd.  I actually didn't direct that at you at all.  I was musing about how incredible Green has been for the Capitals and who wouldn't look to add him.

If Washington wasn't over the cap by almost $1 MIL I would offer MacArthur, ...um... crap...I can't remember my Parise trade.  >:(

that "writer" said the Leafs "upgraded dramatically" over the summer.  Hell, even I don't think they upgraded "dramatically"

Not even nutman thinks they've upgraded dramatically.
