I know nothing about this guy. What does it mean when Cox says "again"?

Damien Cox‏@DamoSpinReply
Leafs again hopeful of luring feisty Finnish C Leo Komarov, an '06 draftee, to North America next season. Now 25, plays for Moscow Dynamo.

They've been unsuccessful thus far at getting him to come to NA.

He signed (or was expected to sign) in 2011: http://mapleleafshotstove.com/2011/04/10/leafs-to-sign-prospect-leo-komarov/

Maybe he means "again" as in - they've tried luring guys like Gustavsson, Bruunstrom, Wallin, etc.

I have never even heard this name.

Leafs tried last year and he signed with the KHL for 2 years. I guess he has some sort of escape clause or Cox is wrong ??

After reading up on him, he seems like he could become a pretty useful bottom 6 forward.

He sounds very Jarko Ruutu-esque.  He'll chirp, hit, drive the other team crazy, be dirty at times, be a strong presence on the boards, forecheck well and score 10-12 goals.  Seems like he could be decent enough in a bottom 6 role.

I was a big fan of this guy and followed his progress while he was still a prospect. Always had a feeling that he was unlikely to come over. I can't see Burke bringing him over. The line-up is too cluttered for him to think he has a solid chance at cracking the team. And for a guy his age I don't think he'd be too thrilled about having to hone his stills in the AHL.

Lineup is too cluttered and he doesn't have a solid chance of cracking the team???

I'd only say that towards the top teams who have very few positions available.  On the current Leafs roster, there are only a few untouchable players, or players I would hate to see go, unless something good was coming back to the Leafs.  There are so many missing pieces to this Leafs team, I do not know where to start, but adding a player who can stir the pot, and be a pain in the back side towards opposing players would be a good place to start.

If I were Burke, I'd try to offer him some type of guaranteed money contract, or a contract that stipulated he would earn more money if he made the Leafs team, than if he ended up in the A.  Not sure if this is allowed by the CBA, but offering him guaranteed money might do the trick in luring him here.

He can make more in the KHL than he can here and if he already doesn't want to come over, offering him less money, even if it is guaranteed one way isn't going to be a massive incentive.

Also with regards to the lineup being cluttered, even if he does make the team, there is no way he is signed to a deal paying him the same money as a KHL contract, it makes zero sense for an unknown commodity.

Here's another article on Komarov.

HELSINKI, Finland -- If Leo Komarov has his way, he'll be wearing a Toronto Maple Leafs sweater in the fall.

The 25-year-old Finnish forward finally feels ready to make the jump to the NHL and hopes a deal can be worked out to make it happen once he finishes playing for the host country at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

"I hope so -- as fast as possible," said Komarov. "If they need me and they give me a good contract then I will go over there."

Sounds like he really wants to come over! There's no way he'd accept a 2-way though.

He wouldn't have a choice.  It would be a standard entry level contract.

I just read that he was named the 'most hated player' in the Finnish SM Liga 3 years in a row. I like him already. :)

Interesting talk. I really never expected him to show such an interest in coming over. Hopefully Burke can get something done then.

Being a Finn, I've been following Komarov rather closely for the past few years and I'm quite confident he's good enough to be a third-liner in the NHL as he's basically a Jarkko Ruutu with less diving antics and more willingness to go to the net. I'd for sure be excited to see how he does on the Leafs, should he decide to accept Burke's offer.

Burke: "You've seen him, he's not big," said Burke, who is part of USA Hockey's management team for the world championship. "But he's dynamic, explosive, obnoxious and skilled. He's a really hard guy to play against... He makes things happen out there and we're hopeful at some point that he joins the organization."
