Marlies Clear Day List

New member
The Marlies have set their Clear Day list. The list determines what players can be used for the duration of the AHL season, including the Calder Cup playoffs. Other players such as draft picks and those on amateur tryouts can be added in the event of callups and injuries, providing that their regular team's season are over.

Jussi Rynnas (G)
Ben Scrivens (G)
Will Acton
Carter Ashton
Jesse Blacker
Joe Colborne
Jerry D'Amigo
Nicolas Deschamps
Philippe Dupuis
Josh Engel
Mark Fraser
Matt Frattin
Jake Gardiner
Simon Gysbers
Ryan Hamilton
Korbinian Holzer
Nazem Kadri
Juraj Mikus
Marcel Mueller
Jay Rosehill
Greg Scott
Mike Zigomanis

The list is capped at 20 skaters and 2 goalies. I've only watched 1 Marlies game (against St. John's) and parts of others. Which goalie would you drop?

Based on the numbers they've put up this season, Rynnas.

Scrivens - 15 Wins From 29 Games - 2.27 GAA - 0.917 SvPct
Rynnas - 8 Wins From 16 Games - 2.57 GAA - 0.910 SvPct
Owuya - 9 Wins From 17 Games - 2.07 GAA - 0.926 SvPct

Yeah, I'd have Owuya over Rynnas.

Notables not on the list:
Colton Orr (second last year - was injured)
Jeff Finger (this is his last year @ $3.5 mil)
Maybe Kenny Ryan (currently in ECHL)
Matt Lashoff (knee injury but hoping to make it back)

It's a good roster. They have a decent chance to do well if they can get their PP/offence straightened out

Gardiner should help in that area.

In theory, he should. Sometimes the lack of know how among AHLers can mess up guys like Gardiner some because people aren't where he might expect them to be. His skating and ability to recover will definitely help him be an asset but I'll be curious to see if he seems to find some of it confusing. It really threw Matt Stajan off for example because there's more positional chaos and it can be pretty nasty physically.

Frattin will help them as well.

Assuming they've designated Scrivens as the starter for the Marlies, they might be hoping Owuya can sneak Reading into the playoffs and so he can get some starts there instead of backing up in the AHL.

Finger is out with an injury too. Hasn't played since January 11th.

Entirely why yes, I think that is why Owuya was sent to Reading and Rynnas recalled despite Rynnas playing poorly in Reading and Owuya playing lights out with the Marlies.  They want the two guys who have performed playing the lions share of games and this is the way that happens.

If it were up to me I'd have Owuya getting the lions share of games with the Marlies, and send Rynnas down. I'd also get a look at Owyua in the Leaf net as well before the years out.

At this point, since the Leafs have already used their 4 call-ups, that could only happen if Gus/Reimer get injured.

Yeah. That kinda sucks. I also don't understand why he isn't on this list. They've lost the last 3 games without him in net.

1.67 GAA and .945 save % in those 3 games, not the goaltending that has let them down.

The Marlies only scored 3 goals total in those three games. Scrivens was a star in one of them and his save% for the two games he played was .939 and .974.

The Marlies have some PP issues (pretty much all season) and scoring issues recently.

That was always Stralman's problem too. In the AHL games I watched (about 10), he was so much better than the rest of the team. He'd send off beauty passes and the other player wouldn't be ready. On the other side, his linemates were constantly throwing passes into his skates. It was very frustrating to watch. You realize quickly how much of a team sport it is in those situations.

Meh, I look at the Marlies with skepticism now.  I mean Phillipe Dupuis has 20 points in 26 games with the Marlies.  He was absolutely useless up here.
