Nicolas Deschamps to Washington for Kevin Marshall

Minor league deal. Deschamps was never really able to pick up from where he left off last season. Marshall is a defensive guy who played 10 games for the Flyers last season. He'll be a nice addition to the defence corps, especially since they lost Holzer and Fraser.

Seems like a nothing move today.  Hopefully we can look back on this in a little while like we are the Fraser trade.

If Holzer, Kostka, Fraser, and Marshall are all on this team I'm leaving.

Is this thread mods only or? ;D

Pretty insignificant deal, Deschamps wasn't repeating his previous success.

I always found it weird that the German Holzer spoke better English than the Canadian Deschamps.

A trifle strange that this be done just before Reilly is added , plus it is thought Holzer will be returning , to make room for lupul.
Perhaps a D is being traded and gardner is on his way to NHL

If you don't accept mediocre dman, did you accept mediocre forwards like steen, stajan, tlusty, kulemin?

Your hatred of Kulemin is fascinating.  And St. Louis sure hates Steen while Carolina is just aggravated with Tlusty.

I thought the same thing. None of those 3 are mediocre by any stretch of the imagination.

I believe he's saying that he should have complained about those guys when we had them. And at that time they were very mediocre to bad at that time. Obviously after we trade those players 2 of them got much better than they were for us.

Yes Marshall has decent size on the back end, both are high 2nd round picks, Marshall is a year older.  Deschamps will likely never play a game in the NHL, Marshall already has.  Marshall may just provide some stability on the Marlie back end but will likely never be in our plans with the big club.  With our clut of forwards though his chances maybe better than Deschamps would ever be so just a meeehhh but a good move none the less if for anything else to allow for some of the our Marlie forward prospects to get more ice time.

More depth for the Marlies as another (JG) will soon be with the Leafs following the trade of one off the big club? Dominoes indeed!  ;D

Yes.  It was a thing called development.  They gave up on a guy with 2 40+ point seasons under his belt at the age of 24.  Cliff Fletcher made a stupid reactionary trade because he was incompetent as GM during his interim phase.

And Tlusty was a stupid trade from Burke.  He decided that there was no room for Tlusty and traded him for a guy who size and limited skill because Deschampes had more "truculence".  So we gave up a guy who has comfortably produced on Carolina's top 6 while being responsible defensively for a garbage AHLer.  Burke gave up on him at the age of 21.

It's impatience and bad asset management.  Granted Kulemin is 26 and not incredibly young, but the guy is playing defensively strong hockey and not getting offensive opportunities and is still playing like a 35-40 point player.  Bad asset management if we trade him.

That is a ridiculous comment.

Tlusty wasn't traded for Deschamps.

We got Philippe Paradis in return for Tlusty, which is probably even worse.

But then we turned that and Stalberg into Versteeg... then that into a 1st and 3rd... then those are now prospects Leivo and Percy.

So after all of that.... Maybe still terrible lol

Psst. Tlusty was traded for Paradis, who was subsequently moved in the Versteeg deal. I railed against that trade when it happened and it still angers me.
