The Toronto Blue Jays had a blistering May, in which they improved their record to 26-27 and are currently just a game below. 500.

Not bad for a team that started their season in April that led them to a dismal 2-11, making that the worst start in franchise history.
Considering all of the injuries that occurred in such a short time, the Jays' struggles knew no end.

Slowly, with the team trying to innovate in finding ways to win without some of their key players -- placing relief pitcher Joe Biagini in the starter role; shifting Russell Martin to third base until he too went on the DL -- well, as we saw, the Jays began turning the tide...

...going into May when, as the injured eventually returned, the Blue Jays' pounded hits with plenty of long bombers as exclamation marks in their victories!  With all hands on deck, in other words a full roster, the red-hot Jays  now will take on another hot team, the A.L East leading New York Yankees (30-19).

Should be a vastly interesting series between these two A.L. rivals.

Yankees 12  Blue Jays 2

From a Blue Jay high in May to a New York thud in June.  That's what the Yankees had in mind as they used plenty of hits & home runs to make a mockery of Jays' starter Marco Estrada. 

Estrada allowed seven runs and  lasting just 31/3 innings before giving way to an assortment of relievers from Campos to Howell who didn't fare any better.  As for the Yankees starter Sabathia, he got the Jays where he wanted them, off the scoreboard for the most part, in getting the win.

Nice.  Really nice.  Forgeddaboudit.  On to the next game, and with some better luck too.

Yankees 5  Blue Jsys 7

The Bringer of Rain and Justin Smoak did the damage in lifting the Blue Jays to victory in yesterday's game at the Rogers Centre.

Smoak hit a two-run homer and Donaldson hit two home runs -- both solo shots -- powering the Jays on the base paths.  Coupled with starter Francisco Liriano,  who pitched solidly after coming off the DL.  Liriano lasted into the sixth with the score at 5-2 for the Jays.

A couple of Jays relievers later the score became 5-4 and that's when Donaldson's homer padded the lead for Toronto.  Yankees came back within one but their comeback attempts were stifled as Osuna got the save.

Don't look.  This one hurts.  A little embarrassment along with it. 

Jason Grilli, who had come on to relieve Jays' starter Joe Biagini -- who by the way pitched a decent seven innings  in allowing three  runs -- will wish that he could take back the eighth inning.  The Yankees scored four home runs off Grilli to practically seal the Jays fate in this afternoon's tilt here in Toronto.

In so doing, Grilli becomes the first reliever in Blue Jay franchise history to have allowed four home runs in an inning.  Ugly alright.

A series split is all the Jays can hope for tomorrow, as the .500 mark remains elusive.  Guess that achievement will definitely have to wait.

At least the Blue Jays got the series split they were looking for.  But, you're right, those Yankees aren't easily stoppable.  How else are they atop the A.L. East.

Wish the Jays could at least reach the .500 mark and soon, too.  It will be a psychological barrier off their shoulders to reach that mark.
