The Toronto Blue Jays just split their series with the Boston Red Sox.  It was by no means an easy time in Fenway Park.  Game 2 of that series, a 5-4 Bosox victory took 15 innings to complete.  That's like having played nearly two games in one night.  Tiring and disappointing no doubt for the Jays.  But at least, they managed splitting the series in the end.

Now, they move on to face Edwin Encarnacion and the Cleveland Indians.

The Indians (48-49) have had issues of their own but still lead the A.L. Central.

The Blue Jays (44-51) sit at the bottom of the A.L. East, 5.5 GB Wildcard spot.  Seems like injuries with this team just won't disappear for the long haul.  Take Aaron Sanchez.  Having returned from the DL after a lengthy absence on the mound, he returned to pitch Game 3 (a 5-1 loss) and had his once-blistered finger re-blistered.  Sigh.  Can the Jays ever get this right, somewhere at least?

That's a question only the Jays can answer.  It is called depth and consistency, something still lacking on this team.  Try as they might, and might as they try, they cannot seem to get to the .500 level.  Nope.  Not yet.  Maybe not ever this year.  Take your pick.  Luck will decide that.

For now....

GO JAYS GO!

Blue Jays 1  Indians 2  10th

A lead-off Cleveland home run sunk the Blue Jays in a tough loss.
Justin Smoak's homer in the eighth inning broke the shutout for the Indians until Lindor's in the tenth won it for the Indians.

A tough loss for the Jays particularly for starter Marcus Stroman whose gutsy performance dealing with a blistered finger was to be applauded  Stroman plitched a little over seven innings allowing one run and striking out seven.  Too bad he received little support from his team's offense.  A story all too familiar this season.

The loss came a day after the Jays were effectively Edwin-ked in a 13-3 drubbing, in which ex-Blue Jay Edwin Encarnacion led the offensive parade with four RBIs.

Blue Jays 1  Indians 8

A day after the Blue Jays lose a tough one, (a 2-1 loss in the 10th on a leadoff homer by the Indians Francisco Lindor), and in which saw Jays starter Marcus Stroman put in a gutsy performance with somewhat of a blistered finger developing -- Stroman struck out seven and went a little over seven innings -- the Blue Jays lose a stinker in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

J.A. Happy allowed seven runs and just had overall poor ball control.  Of course, no offensive support from his teammates, thanks to Cleveland starter Corey Kluber who effectively shut down the Jays batters, save for Kevin Pillar's solo homer.

Not enough offensive support has been a tired tune throughout this season for the Toronto Blue Jays, especially when your starter such as Stroman pitches brilliantly in a close loss.  That has happened a little too often for comfort this year, and, it has got to change for the Jays to make any inroads in moving on up from the cellar in the A.L. East.

This was by far the toughest road trip with Toronto sporting a 3-7 w/l record.
Also being outscored 23-5 in the three games.
