k, he's stuck not playing because of the Cap, and what does he see every time he watches some hockey to keep up to date with his team? uh huh.

I don't know the minutae of the rules here for players, but he doesn't have a contract at the moment and it's not like he can influence a game from home, so... what's the big deal?

He doesn't even have a contract, right?

That's a big ticket

Okay, I see the investigation started in the summer for actions taken last season. Which is probably why Ottawa made it look like they had trouble signing him.

Can he even serve it until he has a contract? I know, with suspensions in the past, that's how it worked. So, he'll miss half the season AFTER he finally signs.

Yeah it says the suspension begins once he is signed.

They've corrected that

So maybe this wasn't Dorion screwing up his cap situation after all?  He knew something was coming maybe?

That seems lenient.  But I guess this is a sport that allows you to break the rules once you commit an infraction (icing during a penalty)

Half a season and he didn't even bet on NHL games. That's sure something.

edit: I guess maybe he didn't bet on "NHL games" as the release says, but other NHL-related prop bets like award winners and stuff.

Seravelli says the sens only became aware of this in recent weeks. So nah, they just lucked out.

There is some speculation/not super trustworthy reporting suggesting he used a proxy to make bets.

Why can't NHL players make wages on other sports if the bets are legal?
... because... they could sway a result in their sport if they convinced someone in another sport to sway the result?

Interestingly Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United (the football team I follow) has just been banned for 10 months for betting on illegal betting platforms in Italy.

It?s unclear if he bet on football or matches his then team AC Milan were playing in.

Meanwhile on Sunday he played his last game before the suspension and received an ovation of support from the fans while walking past the various advertising boards in the ground that were showing adverts of the league and clubs betting partners.

Ivan Toney of Brentford is nearing the end of a ban for betting. When he returns he will be playing in a shirt with a betting company on the front as the main sponsor.

Both players have been diagnosed with gambling addictions.

I think a sports and gambling reckoning similar to the smoking one is required?
