2025-26 General Trades & Signings

This is the kind of trade I would have made in mid/late July if other options didn't work out and we had cap space to burn. I do think Kane will be very motivated to prove people wrong in what is very conveniently a contract season too and can see him putting up some solid numbers (certainly wouldn't want to be the team to re-sign him long term after that though).

To make this trade right now though is such a massive gift to the Oilers I really don't understand why the Canucks of all teams (divisional rival, they don't have a ton of cap space, and have bigger needs like a centre) would do it.
I would make this trade today. He's an elusive power forward. Knies and Kane on the first two lines would be sweet.

If teams are trying to emulate the the Panthers mean gameplan, a guy like Kane can play like that...as long as he's healthy.

I said this earlier this season, but I think it's pretty clear that the Leafs don't have players that are mean and nasty...I'd like them to acquire a couple.

Kesselring is the main piece Buffalo targeted.

Might be able to swing a Robertson for Doan trade too, if Buffalo is looking to replace some cheap scoring with suspect defense.

Peterka is a reasonable statistical comparison for Knies. This deal might help the Leafs’ cause.
I don't think there's a GM in the league who would take Peterka over Knies though.

This is still a laughable return for the guy but something about Peterka feels a little suspect.

Peterka has a higher P60. Obviously Knies has the size. Gotta like what JJ was able to do on an inferior Buffalo team. I'd say it's close, definitely comparable.

You always gotta be a little skeptical of offensive numbers for players on a team where defence is optional. That's my biggest red flag with Peterka right now. Entirely possible he keeps putting up points but it wouldn't be the first time a guys numbers were inflated just by playing big minutes on a bad team.

True, but take Knies off Toronto's first line and put him on Buffalo. What would his numbers look like? It's tough to compare in those wildly different scenarios. I will say this, taking guys from bad teams moving them into better situations and having them flourish seems like a thing.
