Rantanen was already 50% retained going to the Hurricanes (4.625), so another full retention would bring him down to 2.3125, which around the number the Leafs had readily available with Reaves down + LTIR (+ whatever roster players) are in the trade. If the Leafs had a higher offer, it'd be like 2 1sts + Cowan + (Minten or Danford) at minimum. or Knies + a lesser mix of the futures package.

Pretty weak corroboration. We already knew Carolina asked for Knies. Doesn’t suggest the Leafs actually offered anything like what’s being bandied about here.
 
The corroboration is that the Leafs went pretty deep on Rantanen (which entails a commitment of assets). I don’t think Iyper has great analysis or opinions but I do think he has sources around the league.

Even still…feels more like speculation than anything else. I think it’s more like Kyper trying to support his assertion that Cowan and Minten would be moved.
 
Why would so much detail be know about this potential trade and there wasn’t a whisper about Carlo and Laughton?

For the amount of detail that Kypreos shared this was either some plant to up the price or fabricated horseshit.

I don’t believe the leafs are stupid enough to offer what he’s suggesting.

I think Kipper usually has pretty solid intel but this just feels insane. Leafs would cough up two 1sts and also their two best prospects for one big playoff run and then have to let Marner walk by extending Rantanen instead of him? And they'd go into playoffs without a real 3C and real RHD for Rielly? Just not buying this one.
