2025-26 General Trades & Signings

2019-2020 18G 42A 60P 70GP
2021-2022 12G 25A 37P 71GP
2022-2023 15G 16A 31P 53GP

Two consecutive seasons of point totals in the 30s and then hasn't played professional hockey in 2 years.

Comparing that to Patrick Kane who put up 59 points before missing part of the next year to his hip resurfacing...I just don't see how that's a good contract.

If they win the cup...great. They made their job harder by paying a guy who was playing likely a 3rd liner 5+ million dollars providing he is healthy enough to just physically be on the ice.

That’s it?

Can we get McTavish for Niemela and Hirvonen and a 6th
I think Poehling's had a couple solid seasons with Philly (heck, unless Laughton really steps up next season you could argue we would have been better off going after him), but yeah that still feels like a very light return on Zegras. Surprised they didn't give him a chance to play under Quenneville.

Do we think Zegras is worth that much considering his last two injury plagued seasons? I mean, he's scored a couple neat goals and had a good rookie and sophmore season, but hasn't been much since then. 32 points in 57 games isnt' exactly screaming "I need that guy". Especially at 5.75m

I think he's still young enough that it makes total sense for a team like Philly to take a chance on him. If you can get him back to his 21/22 and 22/23 seasons they're laughing. If not they're out a (rather good) 4C and a couple of picks (which they have lots of) and he doesn't get qualified next year. Worth the risk I think. Especially because while I don't think Zegras should escape blame for his performances the past two seasons I also get the feeling Greg Cronin wasn't the kind of coach that pushed the right buttons there. Rick Tocchet can be seen as a hard ass sometimes too but players seem to love playing for him, I think that's maybe the best fit in all of this.

While Zegras has become overrated, that's still quite the light return.

Also, was really hoping Anaheim would take Kampf off the Leafs' hands, but that's probably off the table now.

Philly might take him to replace Poehling’s duties

Ducks got hosed. Why weren’t the Leafs in on this. Philly gave up nothing. Zegras for squat would have been a good add 2nd or 3rd line center. Crap. Attitude maybe?

I definitely would be interested as a change of scenery guy but I wouldn't be overly hopeful.

At his best, he’s been a 60ish point guy, which is fair for his contract. If he can get back near that, it’s a good deal for Philly. If he’s settled in as a 40-50 point guy, it’s just an okay deal. Wouldn’t actually represent a huge upgrade on Poehling if that’s how it plays out (when you factor in the offensive and defensive contributions each player makes). He also is probably best suited on the wing rather than down the middle, so, not a guy that would have been high on my list of targets. Too many question marks and doesn’t address the position that most teams really need help at.

Also comes with a bit of baggage having already gone through a contract dispute. 3 injuries over the last two seasons. I guess the only positive is it's the last year of his contract so if he struggles again, he won't be getting a raise.

Sounds like Evander Kane has been traded to the Canucks.

This is the kind of trade I would have made in mid/late July if other options didn't work out and we had cap space to burn. I do think Kane will be very motivated to prove people wrong in what is very conveniently a contract season too and can see him putting up some solid numbers (certainly wouldn't want to be the team to re-sign him long term after that though).

To make this trade right now though is such a massive gift to the Oilers I really don't understand why the Canucks of all teams (divisional rival, they don't have a ton of cap space, and have bigger needs like a centre) would do it.
