Little bit of a reminder that the Marlies also exist, and we'll likely be seeing a number of signings of players that are earmarked for that team.
The Marlies will need a lot of help at the top of their line-up. Especially if Steeves doesn't return (couldn't blame him if he wanted to see what else was out there). In particularly they're going to need to find players for Cowan to play with. As things stand the team doesn't really have anything resembling a AHL-level 1C.
Is there any way we can get him to play angry?
I don't think he has it in him, unfortunately. Similar to McMann and Matthews in that regard.
How did you skip Nylander on that list?![]()
You are correct of course: keeping Kerfoot was the right move. The missing context is that the Leafs had only 7 forwards, 5 D and one NHL goalie signed going into that offseason, in a world where the cap wasn’t going up and up.
This does a good job of explaining it: https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/toronto-maple-leafs-offseason-cap-space-free-agent-room/
I’m curious how people would have fit Hymab in (without knowing anything about how he’s performed in Edmonton) and filled out the remaining pieces.
My wishlist from 2023-24 offseason is in shambles:
-Marner traded before NMC for 2C + prospect on the cusp
-Knies signed to 7x7 once eligible
-Tavares on deferred salary deal
I mean, that RH 3/4C would’ve been the second or third piece in the Marner trade they should’ve made before the 2023-24 season. That we got anything here is great, but this has got to be among top 3 cases of bungled asset management of the cap era, no?this ended up closer to the wish list than I thought possible.
Marner for 2-way RH centre (leaning more defensive)
Knies 6x 7.75M AAV
Tavares is on a deferred salary deal now
Definitely.I mean, that RH 3/4C would’ve been the second or third piece in the Marner trade they should’ve made before the 2023-24 season. That we got anything here is great, but this has got to be among top 3 cases of bungled asset management of the cap era, no?
Once the NMC kicked in, the Leafs were powerless.I mean, that RH 3/4C would’ve been the second or third piece in the Marner trade they should’ve made before the 2023-24 season.
