Not a bad move, but I highly doubt Boyle signs with them. Too many playoffs team are going to want to talk to him, so unless it's just going to be all about money he'll test the market.

At the very least you have to figure that making a deal like this means that the Islanders will throw a ton of money at him. Playoff teams may be interested but at 38 the difference between offering him a multi-year deal or not could be a legitimately huge factor for a guy who has won just about anything a guy could win.

That's true. It likely will come down to whether his desire to take another serious run at the Cup is stronger than the desire to pad his bank account a little more. I mean, he's also made a lot of money over the years, as well. Capgeek has his career earnings just north of $54M.

That's probably only 25 million or so after taxes and agent fees. Hard times out there.

This is pretty much the kiss of death for any potential UFA who wants to test the free agent market.  Once your UFA rights are with the Islanders they concoct their koolaid and you sign a contract with them.

It depends largely on teams that come a-calling to playing hockey in Brooklyn.  If Boyle isn't going to be swayed by signing a large sum of a contract, then it will come down to which team entices him more to play with & where.

The Islanders organization wouldn't have bothered if they didn't think they have a legitimate chance at signing him or rather, convincing him playing with them would be in his best interests.

Hope he commits as an Islander.
