Cal Clutterbuck

Not a rumour or anything, just read that Clutterbuck may be traded this weekend. He is set to be a RFA and the rumoured asking price is a 2nd and a prospect. I think he would fit in nicely on the third line, he has had a cap hit of $1.4 million each of the last three seasons. I'm not so sure about the asking price, depends on what level of prospect they would want.

Just wondering what everyones thoughts are on him.

THe bolded is the most important part to me. If they want a D'Amigo type prospect, I'm 100% on board. If they want something more significant than that, things become a little more murky.

Hits stuff and doesn't seem terrible. Anything that might save us from RC dressing Orr and McLaren regularly is worth a 2nd rounder and a middling prospect. Looks like he'll be half a million dollars more expensive than Komarov though.

Well, Komarov isn't an option, and Clutterbuck has a lot more offence that Leo did. He'll provide similar production to what Clarkson would, at a much lower cost and he's much better defensively. The biggest difference is that he doesn't really drop the gloves.

I'd love to have him, he'd be a fan favourite.

Darcy Tucker 2.0

Leafs brass should make his stache mandatory though.

Fixed it.

I haven't seen much of Clutterbuck since he plays out West. Seems like he's a real Sh*t disturber, and probably a cheaper better version of Clarkson if that's the type of player we're going for. With that said, I'm not about to pay a large price for a grinder. Maybe Cliff can get his son out in Minnesota to do daddy a favour and ship Clutterbuck to Toronto on the cheap... ;)

Living in the East of Canada, the NHL has limited me watching the Leafs (which is idiotic) but I have been able to see a few games of Western teams.  Clutterbuck has toned done the Steve Webb/Cam Janssen stuff but plays with a hard nosed edge.

You can pencil this guy in for 15 goals, 275 hits but actually surpassed 350 hits in a year PLUS this past season he only got 27 PIMs which is almost Lady Byng territory.

Is there some sort of package deal if Nonis signs both Welland, ON boys, Clutterbuck & Horton? They would both provide some much needed grit.

This would be a very nice pair to have. I'd immediately put Horton on the 2nd line and drop Kulemin into the 3rd line with Clusterf.... I mean Clutterbuck.

Lupul - ? - Kessel
JvR - Kadri - Horton
Clutterbuck - Colborne - Kulemin
D'Amigo - McClement - ?
Orr

seems like a reasonable 8th-10th forward: looks like he gets you 15 goals and 25-30 points in a season.  I sometimes worry that having a high hit count is a negative indicator:  it means you don't have the puck.  But normally, hits and turnovers are stats I just ignore ...
