Capitals vs. Leafs - Dec. 18th, 7:00pm - SN

Rielly dumps the puck in while Knies is still well offside guaranteeing Washington possession....they all suck. They all need to go away
Brain dead at times. Time to change the coach. There's nothing here. 34 and 88 do not work together. Robertson and Cowan are the most noticeable forwards. That's not a good thing.

Knies, Cowan, Woll and maybe Hildeby are the only guys I would keep for the long term at this point. Maybe I'm forgetting someone, or if a McMann manages to stick around, sure.

I don't think we can do that with aging players and a declining Matthews. Limbo this year, trade assets for prospects and picks next year, tank, and restart the whole thing. Be competitive in 2030.
They won't rebuild until one of 88 or 34 go. The Leafs will know the probability of 34 ever getting back physically to where he was and go from there.

I do like Stecher and McCabe
Stating the obvious: Stecher's done a heck of a job for a waiver wire pickup dropped into this situation.

I've liked Robertson's and Cowan's efforts.
I'd make PP2 PP1 to send a message to PP1 whether their hands are cupped to their ears or not.

Leafs are on pace for 18 shots

I wonder if Berube will make it through this road trip ...

That's what I'm saying. If they are out of the playoffs this year and next, maybe Matthews and Nylander will waive their NMCs and they can start a rebuild.

Everyone is on the table if you're rebuilding.
Yep
Like Quinn Hughes, they'll know well in advance that Matthews is not returning.
Why would Matthews hang around for a rebuild? The clock is ticking on his career.
If they wait, maybe Treliving can get a 3/4th line center for him ...
If they move him this season, they'd probably get much more - a 1st rounder and a prospect - whatever because he has the balance of this season and a couple more left on his contract. Leafs could retain some $ to improve the return.

I'm wrestling with the question - is this team really this bad? Or have they tuned out the coach or are not willing to play the system? I honestly don't know which is worse.
