Leafs acquire Connor Dewar from MIN

Was so, so, so close to going in on the Leafs for failing to bring in a PKer not just at the deadline but all season long. Phew, glad I waited.

From Michael Russo at the Athletic:

Dewar, 24, is a solid, bottom-six center and a strong penalty killer. He doesn?t have a lot of size (5-foot-10, 183 pounds), but he skates very well and he?s good on the forecheck. He can also bring some offense to a penalty kill, as he he has four shorthanded goals over the past two years. Dewar is a pretty soft-spoken guy ? a small-town kid from The Pas, Manitoba ? but he?s well-liked by teammates in the room, so he?d fit in pretty much anywhere.

So no major roster upheaval like last season with all the new faces.  Couple of dmen and a depth forward.  As always this is on the big 3 (lesser extent Tavares) and a hot goalie to do something in the playoffs.

Reasonable, especially since he's not a rental.

I was worried it'd be more than this since he's just a RFA, but a 4th 3 drafts from now is a very, very fair price to give up.

Oh no, this is on Tavares as well and Rielly too. They make the most, they need to perform the most.

Forgot about Rielly, ya not to diminish Tavares but the real work needs to be done by Matthews, Marner and Nylander.  If those 3 are going full tilt in a series the Leafs will be fine.

He's a 4th liner that can kill penalties. Simmonds says this is a confusing move because they have a 4th line centre already. Nobody on the panel thinks it's a good move.

Once he learns to play defense, that could be Robertson.

We didn't trade him, did we?
Robertson is their scoring depth. Personally I would get him out PKing and teach him that part of the game. He has the wheels.

He knows someone can like just play wing, right?

It doesn't address the glaring need of a 3C is what he's talking about. Hey if it keeps Gregor out of the lineup it's all good.
