Lightning arena getting makeover- Lightning Bolts to shoot after they score

Saw this elsewhere... sounds pretty cool. 

The St Pete Times Forum is undergoing a 35M+ dollar renovation this offseason. Funded completely by new owner Jeff Vinik.

He is replacing every single seat, including the terrace level, with plush leather seats with cupholders. He is enhancing the lighting to make it one of the best lit arenas in the NHL. He is remodeling every single suite and all the floors. He is adding a party deck on the roof with terrace level access. He is building a grand entrance way on the west side of the Forum. Among many many other things.

But out of all of these things, and believe me all are amazing, the thing that caught my attention was this:

Wow this should be amazing. Tesla coils shooting Lightning bolts from the scoreboard whenever the Lightning score, 25 feet outward and upward is going to be an awesome effect!

Us TB fans hit the lottery when Vinik bought the team. Hes been nothing short of amazing for not only the team but the area as well.

Yeah, that was my first thought as well, but, the idea has definitely grown on me. I wanna see it in action before I really come to a conclusion on it.
 
The only problem I have would be it happening every time they score. It seems like a pretty cool effect that should be saved for significant goals. If the Lightning blow a team out 6-0 will it lose its impact? Or if they get blown out 6-0 but score a late goal will it really cheer the crowd up? I do like that they're trying something different though.
 
I'd pay to go to games just to watch the Tesla coils. I wonder if they'd rent ice time, and let you use them?

It will initially draw some fans who "have to see it", but the novelty wears fast. The Flames in Calgary were once neat........
 
I can't imagine a fake lightning bolt playing much of a role in my decision to go to a sporting event, but then again, maybe the average Tampa Bay resident is different.
 
In a related story, the front office in Phoenix has announced that there will be packs of wild coyotes roaming the stands next season. When asked about the risk of the publicity stunt team officials said "Yeah, right, publicity stunt".

Its Florida right? I bet they could set it up for real carnage and use it for death penalties as well, between the first and second periods...now thats entertainment lol

And they aren't 'fake' lighting. It's real, just man made.
