I can't believe (or maybe I can) the moronic talk in the media about the Leafs going completely desperate to get Luongo.
Granted he's a top goalie, but...
1) Has that burdensome contract
2) Is quickly moving out of his prime
3) Would send a pretty negative signal to all the young goalies in the Leafs system
4) If he doesn't pan out, who is going to take an even older and declining Luongo contract off the Leafs?
If the price was cheap, I might consider it. But to hear these guys on Sportsnet Tim and Sid talk, I don't get it.
Gardiner and Schenn gone, Gillis is just able to pick up whoever he wants. Can you grasp such non-sense.
I cannot for a minute think that Burke is that stupid or that desperate. He'll find another way to get something done.
All the media can harp on about is that Thomas Vokoun is the only available option. "Who else out there is available?" They drone on...
Anybody can be available for the right price, unless they have a no trade clause. Burke and Nonis have made it clear their preference to improve is via trade and that could include a number of goalies they are inquiring about.
I'd love to see the Scheneider/Luongo thing drag on and give them some real headaches. The price will come down, but I still think the Leafs look elsewhere to resolve their goaltending.
