Marner to Vegas is finally happening

Would rather have signed him because 100-point players are very difficult to find and/or obtain.

But this team needed change, and Marner was one of the big pieces that have signalled that (although if it were up to me it'd have been Matthews instead of Marner).

Let's see how Treliving re-shapes the team now with their most talented player gone

Making an extra mil from an RFA to UFA contract really underscores how little extra value we got under his second contract.
Yup. He’s going from over 13% of the cap to 12% — from his RFA contract to his UFA contract! And the contact card thing shows him delivering $12.6m value over the life of this one. What’d Johnston say the Leafs offered before the Rantanen trade? 13? 13.5? Talk about a guy not wanting to win with his hometown team…

Well, end of an era. Mitch Marner should have gone down as the Leafs leading all-time points scorer. Should have had a Cup or two. Should have had his statue put up and number retired. The fact that this isn't happening is due to a lot of different peoples failures, but ultimately he has to own up to his own here as well.

I mean this is an absolutely coup given we should have expected nothing for him. Nick Roy isn't a world breaker but he's a good 3rd line centre. That's great return for a guy who should have had absolutely zero value and everyone knew was leaving. The last 4 days have looked really good from Treliving with the Tavares/Knies signings and the two trades today.

Tells me the guy got fed up and wanted out. And no state tax on 12M is worth more then 13.5M, if he was even offered that much..

Brad Treliving, when I try to thank him for getting a right shot centre out of this mess.

There is the Americans don’t give a s$&# about hockey tax, which will take a bite out of those endorsements

What is the income tax in Ontario anyway? I know Dreger and Friedman are always on about this, but do you really need to pay 15m in Toronto to equal 12m in Vegas or Florida?

Can't wait for the day when Ferris posts a picture a la Fleury on his Twitter. Good luck with the cutthroat franchise who will jettison anyone who isn't giving them fair value.

Can we do one with Mitch in a Leafs uniform? It seems more apropos.

Anyways…. $12M, what terrible value the Leafs got. Love the kid but hate how this went down. He just stunk in the playoffs and he didn’t earn his contract. Wish him the best, I wished it worked here but it just didn’t.

So, 37% vs 46%... I dunno. It's a bit over a million on a $12m income? I myself am not a rich man and feel more than comfortable at around 1% of his salary, so I dunno... I would think a decent chunk of that million gets made up in endorsements, and then it's awfully nice spending US dollars in Canada.
