As close to a NHL line-up you can get right now.

McCabe, Jarnkrok, and Robertson are all sitting out after being listed as day-to-day.

Myers and Timmins in over Liljegren even with McCabe out is pretty damning for Lily.

I still think that giving up on Liljegren isn't a great idea but if he's coming in at a 3M cap hit and he isn't going to play 82 games, I just don't see how that's a good use of cap dollars.

Rifai, Myers, and Timmins would all have to clear waivers to be demoted to the AHL.  Assuming Hakanpaa starts on LTIR we still need to move at least 2 of Rifai/Myers/Timmins/Liljegren for roster space to start the year.

Line guess based on the last practice
Knies-Matthews-Marner
Domi-Tavares-Nylander
Pacioretty-Holmberg-McMann
Lorentz-Kampf-Reaves

Rielly-Tanev
Ekman-Larsson-Myers
Rifai-Timmins

They can't afford to have a trade held up by injury.
Evidently, they're satisfied with their top 4 dmen and Hakanpaa
I suspect this is linked to the Nylander center experiment appearing to end.
I suspect they're trying/expecting to flip Liljegren & his cap space plus whatever other assets (they would probably have at least one spare forward) to land a center.

Assuming Murray gets waived ... likely but there has been some debate in the media on that ...

I think Myers was expected to be waived
I'd assume they'd hang on to Rifai until Hakanpaa comes off LTIR

Assuming Lorentz & Pacioretty are signed, if Dewar is not on LTIR, they have to shed a forward.

Without Liljegren, they don't have a cap problem. 23 man roster is the limit of concern.

All that changes if they get player(s) back trading Liljegren.

It's going to be an interesting few days.

Assuming Lorentz/Patches sign we would have 14 forwards (Dewar to LTIR).  Once Dewar comes off LTIR we would have 15 forwards so at least one of Robertson, Holmberg, Kampf, Jarnkrok, Reaves, or Dewar would need to go if the Leafs plan to go 14F 7D and carry a full 23 man lineup.

If Liljegren does get moved, I wonder if the team would rather carry 13F and 8D to start to not lose one of Rifai/Myers to waivers.

Is Myers that precious? Nashville waived him in 2021-22. Tampa waived him in 2022-23 and 2023-24. Nobody claimed him. I'd take my chances with him. I think Murray is a higher risk of being claimed - a number of teams carried 3 goalies last year.

Rifai has the one way contract extension of $775k for the next 2 seasons after this ($775k if he plays in the AHL) - which may discourage small market teams. Based on how he's been played, when Hakanpaa returns, he'd be their #8 (having said that I like him)

Forgot to respond to your earlier post. I too didn't mind Liljegren. I don't think he's garbage. He did well when Rielly got suspended. He beefed up over the summer. Improved his fitness. He can help a team and potentially in their top 4 in the near future. The Leafs seem to want more meat on the backend.

Lorentz from Reaves on the crash, bang, thank you jam.

I like that Lorentz had a plan for how to shoot the puck before he got the puck.

Woll was great as was the PK

Great save but I clenched up right quick there

Easy apple for Marner. Matthews slams one home to tie the game.

Knies is quite a handful along the boards

Detroit trapped for two Leaf shifts. Now gets called for a penalty because one of the skaters broke his stick after an icing (it was already broken). Now they get the tv timeout anyway.

Beautiful wall recovery by Marner on the PP to stuff a breakout opportunity and quickly turn it into an open look for Tavares. Great move by Matthews for the primary assist.

Yeah, Great play by Marner. Took the hit that directly led to the goal.

Every game the Leafs get a bit bogged in the NZ and fart around trying to work the puck north, and then there?s a line change and Nylander swoops through to pick up the puck and just zips through the NZ trap like everyone else is standing still.

I dont know if there is a spot for him, but there's a lot to like about Phillipe Myers and the way he has played in preseason.  He's a RH shot, 6ft 6 and can skate well. Not overly physical but still effective in his end.
