Round 1: Boston Bruins (A1) vs. Florida Panthers (WC2)

Don't see Florida beating the B's but hope Tkachuk makes life miserable for them. Florida has some "gritty" guys.

The best Tampa/Toronto can hope from this series is that it is really chippy.  I can't see this one going more than 5

Yeah... I really see this as a cakewalk for the Bs. Hope I'm wrong!

I can't see it either but then there are usually 1 or 2 surprises in the early rounds so you never know. Would be a huge upset if Florida could actually win, but then you remember Paul Maurice is coach and you laugh and say "ha ha, there is no chance"

I've always liked Maurice as someone to listen to. He's intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable. etc

In 25 years as a NHL Head coach, he's made the playoffs 10 times (40%). Coached a .600 or better team 4 times (16%) and made it past the first round 4 times (16%).

In 20 years as a NHL Head coach, Pat Quinn made the playoffs 15 times (75%). Coached a .600 or better team 8 times (40%) and made it past the first round 11 times (55%).

In 30 years as a NHL Head coach, Scotty Bowman made the playoffs 28 times (93%). Coached a .600 or better team 18 times (60%) and made it past the first round 20 times (67%). Scotty won 9 Cups (30%) the other two didn't win any.

Maurice's record suffered some as a small market coach.

If Maurice beats the Bruins, it would be up there with him taking the Canes to the '02 finals where he lost to Bowman and the Wings. Not very likely.

Bruins in 6. I think Florida can make a series of it, as they?re coming in hot, but I can?t see them winning.

The Bruins are currently facing a team-wide illness

I think the Bruins win this in 5.

Panthers with a couple of obvious penalties in the first 5 mins and Pastarnak with a PPG to put the Bruins ahead. Panthers need to dial it back a bit if they want to be competitive. They have had a couple decent chances already.

Tonight's game is on CBC, if anyone is interested.

Yeah, that goal by Marchand in particular should never go in. Too bad about that. I may have picked Boston, but I would be very happy to see them out in the first round.

Watched most of the 2nd period last night, and didn't feel the intensity I expected from a playoff game. Maybe it was just me, but it felt lacking.

Hearing Ray on that clip ... I thought he retired?

He left us for ESPN.
He didn't really leave us. Ray was doing both TSN and ESPN and it became too much for him so he decided to make a life change. Sucks for us but we ended up good because Mike Johnson is very very good. Too bad TSN couldn't do all of the Leafs games.
