The Toronto Blue Jays travel to Fenway Park for a four game series against the A.L. East Division leaders the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox (52-41) seem to have themselves in a slight slump, having had some pitching nightmares in their previous series aagainst their A.L. East rival NY Yankees.  Boston is 3.5 games ahead atop the division.

The Blue Jays (42-49) are a different story altogether, quite the opposite of the Sox' season.  Having lost two out of three, the Jays are 9:5 GB Boston, and 5.5GB for the A.L. Wildcard spot.  A tall order of catching up for the Blue Jays, as their hopes shrink while losses accumulate.

With trade winds swirling, and a lack of consistency in all areas (save for a few players shining again), this Blue Jay season is turning out to be a forgettable one, their playoff chances a near forgone  conclusion.

As as been said again and again... unless a miracle happens...oh, well, not giving up hope.. just yet...

A Steve Pearce single in the eighth inning became the winning go-ahead run as the Blue Jays staved off the Bosox at Fenway Park.

Pearce also homered earlier. 

The Jays lead 3-0 but the Bosox tied it in the seventh on a three-run homer.  Talk about blowing leads, a Toronto trademark this season.

Jays starter Marcus Stroman allowed three runs all unearned in seven innings before giving way to reliever Leone  and goodbye shutout.  Ryan Tepera relieved Leone until Osuna gained the save in the ninth.

Seriously where do you come up with this stuff? Nobody on Boston hit a HR tonight, much less a 3 run HR!  :P

Stroman pitched well, just ran into trouble in the 7th, particularly on his error when he failed to cover 1st base. Tepera and Osuna did a fine job in the 8th and 9th innings.

Thought it was a homer with that hit that sailed over the Green Monster.  Oops.
 
Blue Jays 8  Red Sox 6

A 15-inning marathon of a game loss on Tuesday (5-4), a 5-1 downer on Wednesday in which the Jays' hitters were being Drew Pomer-t-ranze-d.  Aaron Sanchez' finger blistering up (again).  What gives??!!

Ah, a silver lining in today's Smoak-filled victory and a series split.  Yes, Justin Smoak's two home runs plus contributions from Goins and Pearce helped propel the Blue Jays to the win.  Good hitting by the Jays  placing runners on the basepaths and cashing in with timely results.

Jays starter Francisco Liriano wasn't exactly exalting allowing three runs (two earned), but when your teammates place runs on the board, it makes a difference even if your pitcher is a little shaky. 

Reliever Dominic Leone got the win, and Osuna the save.
