The Minnesota Twins (65-62) make their first visit to the Rogers Centre this season against the Toronto Blue Jays (60-67).
The Twins, who are 5.5 GBL Cleveland Indians in the A.L. Central, are also .5 game ahead of KC Royals for the second WC spot.
Meantime, the Blue Jays, all of 13 GBL Boston Red Sox in the A.L. East, but a more reasonable (if reasonable is even the correct word) 5.0 GB for the second WC spot.
Henceforth, these two teams have a lot going in this series with the Twins looking to up their ante in the WC race, and the Blue Jays clinging to a faint hope that exists among the club, to climb up and truly compete for that last WC spot.
Sigh. Wish it was that easy for the Jays, but we all know it hasn't been and it won't likely be. Just as the Jays had closed the gap to 3.0 GB for the WC, they plunged right back to 6.0 after losing three straight to the Cubs at Wrigley, and have only been able to just check off a game and thus remain at 5.0 GB.
It should be a fun weekend for baseball fans as it is the Players Weekend, as many Major Leaguers will be wearing jerseys bearing their nicknames, plus other knickknacks they may elect to wear. For Jays fans, it'll be good to see their faves in action, but don't expect Kevin Pillar to wear "Superman" due to copyright issues to the name. He'll just be called "Pill" (as far as it's known).
Let the (serious) fun begin!
