Royals 2  Blue Jays 5

Darwin Barney and Justin Smoak led the way while Jays' starter Marcus Stroman pitched his  career-best twelfth win, in powering the Blue Jays over the Royals.

This is one of two final homestands of the year for Toronto.

The Jays' Bautista broke the franchise single season record for most strikeouts.  Not an enlightening stat for Jose but one nonetheless.

Moustakas' 37th home run of the season last night set the Royals single-season record?!  That's kind of astounding it's such a low number.  The Jays had 3 guys with more than that in 2015 alone.

It is an unusually low number but their stadium isn't a great HR park. For comparison to the Rogers Centre it's 2 feet deeper down the lines, 10 feet deeper to straight away Center and 12 feet deeper in the power alleys.

Royals 1  Blue Jays 0

A night after the Toronto Blue Jays got blown out 15-5, another loss piled up courtesy of a shutout by Royals' starter Jason Vargas, that virtually guaranteed the no-chance of a .500 season for Toronto.

It also guaranteed a losing season, dating back to 2013.

Lost in the morass of all of this, was the steady performance of Jays' starter J.A. Happ who was seeking his tenth win on his season.  Happ struck out seven, allowed the one run, and lasted a good 6+ innings.

?I?m in a pretty good place physically and you always want to finish strong,? Happ said, of an injury interrupted season that saw him miss eight starts. ?We?re still competing, no matter what the standings say. You still want to beat that team. You want to win ballgames, be there for your team and pitch well.?
