sorry didn't see the jays thread

But i will add that Curt Schilling really dropped a bombshell today about open talk about PEDs in the Red Sox clubhouse.

Barring any catastrophy the Jays should be in the playoffs at least.

It'll be tougher than that I think. There's a lot of competition in a pretty good AL. Every team in the AL East has a chance at the playoffs.

I see the Yankees and Tampa as weaker than last season (so far). I don't see the Orioles repeating last season and the Red sox are not what they used to be. It will be competitive though.

Up, Up, and a HEY!

Thought this was the best place for my comment, despite the fact that this refers to news from a few days ago.  Russel Martin is quite probably the biggest d-bag baseball player going right now (well, maybe second to Clemens).  I can understand not suiting up for the World Baseball Classic for a number of different reasons.  But to pull a hissy fit and give a big eff-you the National program because you don't get your way is unbelievable.

Playing on this team would have been good for Russel.  Seeing a class act like Joey Votto up close might have been good for him.

After first agreeing to be Canada?s starting catcher when the team?s roster was announced in January, Martin surprised team officials last week when he said he would not participate in the tournament unless he was allowed to play shortstop.

Neither Baseball Canada nor his home club, the Pittsburgh Pirates, would allow him to play the position. Martin has played just one professional game at shortstop, 11 years ago, in minor-league rookie ball. He made one error in just five defensive chances, according to Baseball Reference.

Source confirms report by @Joelsherman1: #Yankees' Rivera indeed plans to announce retirement on Saturday.

Huh, thought he may play again. What a career!

Buster Olney says Rivera will announce on Satuday that he'll retire...at the end of the 2013 season. One more go-around for the best relief pitcher of all time.

That is among the most absurd things I've ever read. It would be one thing if he was a shortstop and they wanted him to play 2B or something like that, but, this . . . just wow.

It's not just preposterous and incredibly rude to Baseball Canada, I think it's rude and disrespectful to shortstops in general.

Ah. Okay, thanks.

Dominican Republic defeats Puerto Rico 3-0 to win the 2013 WBC (World Baseball Classic).

The Dominicans remained undefeated throughout the tournament amassing a perfect 8-0 record, becoming the first to accomplish that feat.

So...according to WAR, Mike Trout should have been chosen as the 2012 AL MVP over the winner Miguel Cabrera, and, according to WAR, the 2002 AL MVP should have been won by shortstop David Eckstein instead of by the eventual winner Miquel Tejada.

Read on if you may, and find out just how important WAR is and why...

1. I posted that article in this thread in reply #4.
2. It doesn't seem as though you actually read the article. It doesn't say that Eckstein measures out as the top player in the AL in 2002 and should have been MVP, only that his fWAR in 2002 was close(4.4 to 4.7) to AL MVP Miguel Tejada. Neither player was within spitting distance of Alex Rodriguez who at 10.0 was graded out as more valuable than both players combined.
