The Stro Show takes Motown!

Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman threw seven innings of no run ball and struck out five in earning win #6 as the Blue Jays thumped the Tigers 12-1.

Hernandez and Sogard each with two RBIs (with T?oscar hitting a solo home run), and Danny Jansen with three RBIs  led the Jays.  It was another team effort with the Blue Jays belting out fifteen hits on the night.
The Jays had a four-run fourth inning and a five-run sixth inning.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. becomes the youngest Blue Jay to have hit a Grand Slammer in franchise history!

Guerrero?s Grand Slam helped the Jays tie the game up at five apiece, until Brandon Drury?s two-run homer in the sixth vaunted Toronto ahead.

Jays starter Trent Thornton had some control trouble as he allowed four runs in the three innings that he worked.
Reliever Wilmer Font took the win as the bullpen calmed things down (Phelps, Shafer, Hudson).  Giles closed out for the save.

Jays lose 4-3 to the Tigers today, but they take the series two out of three.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr., brought the Jays back into a tie in the ninth only to have the Tigers claw back in the tenth, and win it on a walk-off home run by Nick Castellanos off of Jays reliever Tim Mayza (who took the loss).

The surging Cleveland Indians (57-41) pay a visit to the Rogers Centre for a three-game series against the Blue Jays (38-63).

Surging Indians?  Yes, in that Cleveland is now 3.0 GBL Minnesota Twins in the race for top spot in the A.L. Central, and in the hunt for the WC as well.  It wasn?t too long ago that the Indians were nearly twelve games off, out of any hope for a WC position with a below.500 record.
They have since played at above .700 and are the most improved team right now in the A.L.  The Indians are still without their major players in Kluber & Carassco.

The Blue Jays are coming off some positive notes as they took two out of three from the Tigers in Detroit.  This series with Cleveland will feature the return of lefty Ryan Borucki, after being on the 60-day IL & rehab.

Some stats are in order as Cleveland is third in ERA (3.84) & fourth WHIP (1.21).
They are fifth in SB (67).

The only ranking in which the Blue Jays top the Indians is in the HR category, fifteenth (139) to Cleveland?s twentieth (128).

Jays fans are hoping starter Aaron Sanchez starts slotting some w?s and improving his ERA in the process.  That remains to still be seen.

Cleveland defeats the Jays 7-3.

Jays starter Ryan Borucki had himself a bit of a rickety performance, his first appearance of the season since his time on the 60-day IL plus rehab stint.  Borucki allowed four runs (of which two were earned) on seven hits, struck out three in four innings.  He was the losing Pitcher.

Toronto brought the game close on a two-run homer run by Billy McKinney in the fifth but couldn?t sustain the momentum as the Indians toiled back with more runs in solidifying their victory.

Cleveland gets Smoak-ed!

The Jays Justin Smoak was the hero not once but twice.  In the ninth inning, he solo homered to tie up the game, and then in the tenth he hit a walk-off single scoring in the winning run.  Toronto wins it 2-1.

Jays Aaron Sanchez who holds the franchise record for consecutive losses (10) by a starter, finally got a reprieve (still no win) but pitched soundly struck in gout six and allowing just one run while limiting the tribe to five hits over six innings.
The win went to Giles.

It may very well have been Marcus Stroman?s last starting assignment for the Blue Jays just a few days away from the trade deadline.
Stroman performed exceptionally in Toronto?s 4-0 loss to the Indians, allowing a run, while striking out six in seven innings.

No offensive support this time though as the Indians starter Shane Bieber handcuffed the Jays on a one-hitter.  Bad enough.

The bright spot in this game was Stroman and the ovation & applause he received, and issued back, to the Jays faithful.  Stroman loves T.O. and T.O. appreciates him. 

Stroman now owns the third-lowest ERA amongst starters in the A.L.  Way to go, Stro!

The Tampa Bay Rays (58-47) will be playing the Blue Jays (39-65)in a three-game series.

The Rays are vainly keeping ahead of second-place Boston in the A.L. East.  They lead the Red Sox by 1 game, and are also 1.0 games behind the Oakland A?s for the second A.L. WC spot. 
All is not very well in Tampa land as the Rays will be without their ace starter Blake Snell, sidelined possibly a month and a half due to elbow surgery.

The Rays are also a bit of a ?circus? with skipper Cora?s mind-boggling late-game substitutions as occurred against the Red Sox this week. 

The Blue Jays lost two out of three to the Indians in their most recent homestand.  There are several Jays who are rumoured to be on the trade block ? Stroman, Sogard, Galvis ? to name a few.  It?s anyone?s guess what the Jays management will decide and what they plan to obtain in return from these trades (in the most likely event it?ll be prospects, picks, and such).  The trade deadline is July 31st.

The Rays tank second in ERA (3.46) and third WHIP (1.15).
The Jays outrank the Rays in HR 143 (sixteenth) to Tampa?s 134 (nineteenth).

The Blue Jays lost 3-1 to the Rays and a rather quiet night for the Jays bats.
Toronto starter Jacob Waguespack pitched five innings allowing the three runs in five innings of work.  A learning curve for the young Waguespack as he attempts to fit himself in to the Jays starting rotation.

Wowza!  No one saw this coming.

Just when it looked like the Jays were going to retreat and get blasted on the scoreboard, they did the unthinkable (but not undoable) ? they scored seven runs coming back from a 9-2 deficit and to on to win 10-9 in the twelfth inning on T?oscar Hernandez?s walk-off home run.  Whew!

Starting from the sixth inning with Tampa Bay leading 9-3, first Brandon Drury Hit two homers (eighth & ninth innings), then Hernandez?s first in the eighth, and then Guerrero in the ninth) and the game all tied up.  Enter Hernandez with his walk-off homer in the twelfth (and his second of the game).

Jays starter Ryan Borucki was roughed up for six of the Tampa Bay runs in two innings, while Gaviglio allowed the next two and Font one.  The bullpen of Mayza, Giles, Phelps, and Hudson calmed things down on the mound. 
Daniel Hudson got the win.

Talk about role reversal.

Yesterday, it was the Jays who rallied from a 9-1 deficit to eventually emerge victorious in extra innings.
Today, it was the Rays turn.  Final score..Tampa 10-9 over Toronto.

Jays starter Aaron Sanchez was brilliant, at one point striking out six batters in succession.  Sanchez struck out a total of ten, allowed four runs in a little over five innings.  At this time in the game, the Jays were still in the lead 9-4.
Enter the bullpen. 

In a complete turnaround to the previous day?s events, it was the Blue Jay relievers this time who faltered, failing to upkeep the lead ? Biagini, Phelps, & Hudson namely.  Hudson was credited with the loss.

Definitely a frustrating and disappointing day for Sanchez no doubt.

The Blue Jays (40-67) saunter into Kauffman Stadium for a three-game series against the Kansas City Royals (40-67).

These two teams sport identical w/l records.  Not much else can be said about that.

For KC, Jorge Soler leads the team in HR with 27 & RBIs with 72. Plus, the club?s BA leader is Whitt Merrifield (.302). 
The Royals lead the A.L. with SB (91).

For Toronto, it?s Lourdes Gurriel?s 18 homers that lead the team, but it?s Freddy Galvis who leads in BA (.266) & in RBIs (48).

Blue Jay fans should get ready for the much anticipated debut of top prospect Bo Bichette.  Kansas City happens to be his father Dante?s former team.
Yes, yes, we are awaitin?!

At this time of writing, Stroman & Sogard had already been traded.  Sogard?s departure obviously opened the way for Bichette to be called up.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr., has been on a tear of late, hitting two home runs and twelve RBIs along with his .389 BA.

Yes, Bichette made his debut and proceeded getting his first major league hit in the Jays 7-3 win over the Royals Monday night.
It was also quite the night for the Jays other rookies such as Biggio, Guerrero Jr., Jansen, and of course, Bichette.

Boy, this was fun!

The Blue Jays blasted the Royals right out of Kauffman Stafium 😳😄  9-2.

Vladdy Guerrero Jr. pretty well did most of the damage.  His Grand Slammer put the ding and dent on the Royals in the ninth.  At that point in the game, the Jays were leading 4-1.  Galvis, Bichette, Hernandez, & Grichuk were among the offensive contributors.

Jays starter Sean-Reid Foley, also known as SRF, shut down K.C. and pitched admirably for five innings allowing no runs.

The Blue Jays (43-67) come to Camden Yards in Baltimore for a four-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (36-71).

Battle of the cellar dwellers.
Well, not exactly.  Both teams have subpar records, both have stayed in their positions in their A.L. division for most of this season, and both are in a rebuilding phase.  That is where the similarity ends as the Blue Jays have been better than the O?s in the offensive category department.

Whereas Toronto was active at the trade deadline, Baltimore pretty much did nothing (no trades).

While the Blue Jays have come off a sweep in their most recent series against the K.C. Royals, their first by the way since April, the Orioles have been playing .500 July ball.

The only other team worse than Baltimore in the A.L. is the Detroit Tigers.
(At least, it isn?t us).  🙂

The Blue Jays made short work of the Orioles on Thursday night hitting five taters enroute to an 11-3 whitewash of the O?s.

Guerrero Jr., (with two),  Grichuk, Jansen, McKinney knocked off Baltimore pitching.  Guerrero had four RBIs along with Jansen?s three.  These two alone did plenty of damage.

Alright.  The Jays win 5-2 over the Orioles Friday night and are now riding a five-game winning streak.

With solo home runs by Guerrero Jr., and Galvis, plus a Derek Fisher debut.  The newly acquired Fisher hit an RBI single on his first game in a Blue Jays jersey.  Nice.

Jays starters, the bullpen, did a good job of keeping the O?s off the scoresheet with the exception of Gaviglio, natch), otherwise Mayza, Font, Law, and the eventual winner Kingham were steady with their given assignments.

Coupled with Saturday?s 6-4 loss to the Orioles and with Baltimore?s 6-5 win today, the two teams have split this four-game series.

Some highlights of the game centred on Bo Bichette?s seven-game hitting streak, as he had a solo homer, and Cavan Biggio who had himself a solo, too.

Jays starter Sean Reid-Foley had a ?rough? day on the mound compared to his last start, as he allowed four runs (one earned) on four hits, attributable to some sloppy defence by his teammates.
