2025-26 General Trades & Signings

Imagine that. Paying players for playoff performance.
I get it - and I’m not really disagreeing as the numbers don’t lie I suppose, but I have a very hard time believing that if he was with the Leafs he would get away with his style of play. He’d be gone in the first round.

I also can’t think of any other player that had these crazy reverse splits and there’s no way this continues for 8 more years.

But again, what do I know.

He won’t be able to maintain the 20% shooting percentage he’s put up over his last two playoffs. Once that goes, who knows how he’ll be seen with this contract.

Oh I don't think it'll be a good contract, but it's obvious he's a gamer in the playoffs.
He plays hard, sure, but that shooting percentage is unsustainable and, once that regresses, even his playoff performances won’t justify the contract - and if the league ever decides to start enforcing the rules in the playoffs, then it will just be a boat anchor.

I do think at some point it's totally possible they become the Blackhawks after their Cups.

This is a very confusing move as Nashville underpaid when it came to trade assets required to get Hague but then overpaid on his contract. Like I'm kind of shocked Vegas couldn't move him for more than a 4C and bottom pair defenceman (granted both those players fit the Vegas mold). Maybe Hague's contract demands were out there and destroyed his trade value?

I don't fully understand the move from Vegas' perspective either.

Obviously they weren't going to be able to afford Hague (especially at that contract...woof) but this leaves them with 757K in cap space with 12F, 2G and 8D signed.

They will get the cap relief of Pietrangelo's 8.8M but that leaves them with 9.5M in cap space. If they want to sign Marner they are going to be right up against the cap if he signed for 12+ million and that's after trading Roy.

They obviously still need to shed some cap, but this trade effectively brought in replacements for Hague and Roy (downgrades, but not necessarily massive ones). There have been a lot of rumblings about them also trying to move Hertl. I guess we'll see.

I thought they kiboshed Karlsson, Hertl, Barbashev trade rumours. I'd rather take Hertl than Roy (why not both) but Hertl has an NMC until July 1, and then it's a 3-team mNTC.
