The Blue Jays (45-69) is visit Tropicana Field for a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays (65-48).

The Tampa Bay Rays are riding a seven game winning streak and are a solid second in the A.L. East division, 8.0 GBL NY Yankees for the top spot.

The Blue Jays were riding a five-game winning streak but that all came to a halt, as the Jays split their most recent series against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Rays acquired Eric Sogard at the trade deadline from Toronto, while the Jays were busy with trades of their own.

Freddy Galvis leads the team in most areas (runs scored, RBIs, hits, xbh - extra base hits).
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has had 20 RBIs in his last seven games.  He is also the youngest player in MLB to have had 16 RBIs in a five game stretch.
Bo Bichette is on a seven-game hitting streak.
P Trent Thornton leads all Jays pitchers in the SO department with 102.
Reliever Tim Mayza leads the rotation with 14 Holds.  (See definition of a hold below):

A hold occurs when a relief pitcher enters the game in a save situation and maintains his team's lead for the next relief pitcher, while recording at least one out. One of two conditions must be met for a pitcher to record a hold: 1) He enters with a lead of three runs or less and maintains that lead while recording at least one out. 2) He enters the game with the tying run on-deck, at the plate or on the bases, and records an out.

Let?s build another modest winning streak!

GO JAYS GO!

Bravo!

The Blue Jays stopped the Rays winning streak with a 2-0 shutout of Tampa Bay.

Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio led the way offensively, while Jays starter Jacob Waguespack & the bullpen led the way on the mound.
Waguespack pitched six solid innings allowing zero runs and four hits, while Shafer & Mayza each got a hold.  Derek Law closed out with the save.

Also, Bo Bichette becomes only the third player in MLB history since 1908, to hit nine extra base hits in eight games, AND, he now holds the Blue Jays record for fourteen hits in his first eight games.  Wow.

Heh, talk about comebacks.  The Blue Jays have had ?em but Tuesday night, it was Tampa Bay?s turn to shine.  Well, sort of.

With the Blue Jays ahead 6-0 at the top of the fourth inning, led by Bichette?s record night,  Drury?s three-run home run, and Biggio?s solo,  the Rays found a way to tie it all up in the bottom of that same fourth inning.  Sigh.

Looks like Jays starter Trent Thornton had a night he can well forget, allowing all six runs on eight hits (which included a couple of homers in the process).

The loss went to reliever Buddy Boshers who allowed a wild pitch as the go-ahead winning run in the bottom of the tenth.  7-6 Tampa Bay.  Oof.

Blue Jays win rubber match 4-3 this afternoon over the Rays.

Gurriel Jr., Grichuk, and Fisher (two-run homer his first as a Blue Jay), led the offence.
Bo Bichette hit a double for his eighth-straight game setting a Blue Jays franchise record.

Wilmer Font was the Jays starter.  He & Brock Stewart combined for six innings of shutout pitching.  Stewart got the win, Giles the save.

The New York Yankees (75-39) visit the Rogers Centre for a four-game series against the Blue Jays (47-70).

The A.L. East division?s first-place NY Yankees sport the second-best w/l record in the majors after the N.L.?s Los Angeles Dodgers.

Both the Yankees and Blue Jays are riding winning records in their last ten games, with the Yankees currently 9&1 and the Blue Jays 7&3.

The Yankees have had several players on the IL, guys like Encarnacion, Severino, Stanton, and the list goes on.  Despite these injuries, the pinstripes keep chugging along thanks to their excellent depth in key areas.  Of course, there?s always the Tampa Bay Rays who have remained 10 GB them.  Should New York start slumping in earnest (doubtful) and the Rays get streaking (as they had before they met the Jays in the last series this week), then the race for first in the A.L. East would get a little moreinteresting.

It?s worth noting that despite struggling against the lowly Baltimore Orioles, the Bronx Bombers, as so aptly applied, smacked sixteen homers in that three-game series of theirs.  That alone tells the tale of this team.  Alas, the Yankee pitching have given up the most home runs of any team in this second half of this season.

Speaking of Toronto, the red-hot Bo Bichette not only smashed team records, but also set them in league history.  In his 44 at-bats since joining the club from Triple A, the young phenom has a .409 BA, a 1.253 OPS, 3 HRs, and 8 doubles.

As mentioned above, Bichette broke or rather set a new MLB record with ten extra base hits in his first nine games.

If the Jays can continue their playing the way they have in these last ten games, then they?ll have a good chance to quash the opposition.

GO JAYS GO!

Yankees tame the Jays winning 12-6.

It was more or less a learning experience for the young Jays in playing against baseball?s best.  For Bo Bichette, it sure wasn?t. This guy surely knows no bounds as he made MLB history as he doubled for the ninth straight game.  Plus, he now has twelve extra base hits in eleven games.

Bichette with a two-run shot (finished the night with 3 RBIs), Reese McGuire & Derek Fisher each with solos, with McGuire getting four hits on the night.

Jays starter Thomas Pannone was dinged for seven of the Yankee runs in two innings.  Newly acquired (off waivers) Zach Godley  fared somewhat better allowing three runs in three innings.  Well, get the idea.  None of the Jays pitchers could stem the Yankee offensive tide.  Only Jason Adam was able to quiet down the Yankee bats before giving way to Boshers (and some extra New York runs).

One of those crazy games that is every pitchers nightmare.  Happens.

P.S.  Attendance was at 34,000+.

What a difference tonight!  The Blue Jays silenced the Bronx Bombers 8-2 with a powerhouse offensive and pitching display.

T?oscar Hernandez with two homers,  and Grichuk & Jansen with one tater each, along with some stellar defensive plays, most notably Bo Bichette?s diving catch of a Didi Gregorius hit with the bases loaded in the fifth.  Quite possibly the save of the game (the Blue Jays at that point we?re riding a 6-1 lead).

Hernandez and Jansen finished with 3 RBIs each, and Grichuk with 2.

Jays starter Sean Reid-Foley was stellar in the five innings he pitched, allowing one run, striking out five and getting the win.  The bullpen held their own in relief.

I really dig that our young hitters are not opposed to taking the ball oppo taco.

Guerrero?s Triple in the seventh inning was worth two runs scored as it helped the Blue Jays to comeback from a 4-3 deficit to eventually win the game 5-4 yesterday.

Hernandez?s three-run homer lifted the Jays to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, but the Yankees came back to tie and then take the lead until Vladdy Jr.?s triple in the seventh.

Speaking of Guerrero, he?s definitely on fire.  Consider this:

Over his past 20 games, Guerrero has hit .388 (31-for-80) with five home runs, seven doubles, his first three-bagger, eight walks and 25 RBIs. The young phenom also leads all rookies in the Majors this season with 11 games with three hits or more, and he has hit the ball harder than anyone in baseball.

Most balls hit 115-plus mph, 2019:

1) Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (TOR): 7
2. Aaron Judge (NYY): 4
3-T) Gary S?nchez (NYY): 3
3-T) C.J. Cron (MIN): 3
3-T) Nelson Cruz (MIN): 3
3-T) Pete Alonso (NYM): 3

Yankees win 1-0 and the Blue Jays gain a split of this four-game series.

The Texas Rangers (58-58) pay a visit to the Rogers Centre for a three-game series against the Blue Jays (49-71).

The Rangers are 14 GBL Houston Astros in the A.L. West division, but are only 9 GB for the A.L. WC spot.

The Blue Jays came off a split of their most recent series versus the Yankees.  Even though the Jays have a subpar w/l record, in the past 40 games, this team has played .500 ball.

Bo Bichette?s record-setting pace has garnered him a .367 BA, four homers, seven RBIs.  Thirteen games isn?t a lot of time to establish oneself in the major leagues, but Bichette has gone above and beyond anyone?s expectations, not that it should be of any surprise.  Having had an 11-game streak and hitting an extra base hit in nine straight games ? not since Ted Williams accomplished the feat in 1939 ? speaks in droves about the youngster?s talent.

Ah, did we forget someone else?  Why, Vladdy Guerrero Jr., who has been a wrecking ball of late (actually since the second half of this season).  A .330 BA, .952 OPS, & 26 RBIs are propelling the young third baseman.

Good to see the future of this team coming into it?s own.

GO JAYS GO!

Feast!

The Blue Jays turned on the firepower in a 19-4 rout of the Texas Rangers.

Oh, what a night!  Those poor Rangers.  You don?t say!

Four hits by Bichette, a Grand Slammer by Drury (who?s on a nine-game hit streak), two-run homers from Smoak & Grichuk, RBIs after RBIs, hit after hit, run after run...every player in the lineup contributed with a marker of some sort.

Jays starter Neil Ramirez pitched just an inning, as Brock Stewart took over for the next five.  He allowed three runs and struck out three and got the win.  Buddy Boshers and Justin Shafer relieved.

Thwack! Boom! Pow!

No, the Blue Jays did not go on a hitting expedition again as they had done in Monday night?s run-scoring marathon.  This time it was a modest 3-0 win over the Rangers, but the Jays did bring out the power in doing so.

Toronto hit three solo homers ? one each by Grichuk, Hernandez and MdKinney ? which were all that was needed on this night.

Coupled with excellent shutdown roles by Font and  Pannone (winner) and the bullpen ? Mayza, Law, and Giles with the save.

Rangers finally steal one from the Jays winning 7-3.  Toronto still takes series two out of three.
